***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

This is exactly right, Verizon wouldn't have spent the time and financial resources to get to this point with this phone if there were ANY lingering legal issues with Google OR Samsung for that matter. The LTE issue really spooked them and they DID NOT want to launch a VERY high visibility phone on their network when it was sputtering only to cause a backlash of epic proportions. Therefore they pulled back and decided to get the LTE network fixed and stable for a few days so they would have confidence that the phone would be able to perform as advertised. This is the most logical and sensible explanation given the factors that we know.

+1

I'm glad that there are still people who think reasonably and sensibly about all of this. All of the signs point to some sort of last minute software/network issue as the cause of the pulled launch yesterday. The launch gets canned for a week and everybody goes nuts with hating on Verizon because everyone assumes that THEY are blocking Google Wallet. They are not.

If anyone is blocking GW, it is Google. You cannot find that application outside of the Sprint network. Some deal was reached with Sprint way back in the beginning of the year because Google is not offering it on any one of their Nexus phones besides the Nexus S 4G. The United States model GSM unlocked Nexus S that you can buy from Best Buy can't even use it.

I guess people just immediately equated NFC with Google Wallet. They are not the same thing and Verizon isn't holding back any functionality. It does make good fodder for the blogs though.

It's really simple. They want my money, they want me to sign a contract that locks me into them for 2 years, they want me as a customer for these reasons. If they want this from me I expect something from them. So do they owe me information about when this phone will release or even owe me the phone? No but if they expect to get these things from me then I expect those things from them. I am not a hostage to being their customer and nobody should expect me to be hostage to their whims.

you're currently locked into a contract with them, no? if so, then we, as customers have a responsibility to see out our 2 year contract that we sign. anything vzw does to allow you to either get out of your contract or re-up under your 2 year agreement is a bonus for us.

But let's not all start bumping our favorite posts because things get just as lost - this is our biggest thread ever, so - you know.

i'm well aware. someone mentions it every 10-12 posts :p
sorry you don't agree with my reasoning for quoting the entire post.

4G network went down after the release date was moved. And I know for a fact it was not a scheduled take-down of the network. This is absolutely a legal issue and verizon does not want a class-action lawsuit by making this phone available to the public before they are sure they are in the clear

Heh! Thanks but No Thanks. And I appreciate you are just trying to be of help so don't take me as riding you. I'm just spitting this out in general.

Do you work for Facebook? :)

I know, I know, millions all over the world love and cannot live without FB.

If you want to have your business spread out all over the world or easily accessible to those with time and reason, start doing stuff like that on Face Book. I shutter when I hear about contacts of any kind being worked with on FB.

There are so many angles of attack provided on FB it's enumerable.

You guys know what I do and I work with some of the best computer forensics folks in the bizz and We Just Love Face Book! Them selves and all of their family members and friends that trust them will never have a FB account.

Ever notice how when you login the Stay logged box is already checked? That is just one tiny bit of a sign of the mentality of FB.

Do you ever wonder why there is no fee for using FB? Do you think they are operating all those servers at a huge expense so you can FB out of the kindness of their heart?

UGH!

Careful Friends.

Not to mention the fact that they are now requiring you to put a phone number in to "confirm" that you are who you say you are. The simple solution is getting a throw away phone, if needed for work purposes, but that really isn't the point. FB then gives you the option of a phone call or text to confirm the number is legit. There is no legitimate reason (in my book) that a social networking site should require you to give them a phone number. I deactivated my Facebook account. The problem is - once you create one, it never really goes away.

Perhaps I'm missing something. :)

How about a link that _substantiates_ the idea that the Nexus has an LTE issue that is being fixed by an update?

How about an answer to the point that if they held back the phone because they didn't want LTE network complaints, then why did they launch the xyBoard LTE tablet without that concern?

:)

I think you misunderstood my guide, the point is that if you are leaving facebook but want to keep your contact list to import else where this guide will allow you to do so. It exports your address book from the facebook.db file in the android app to a CSV that any e-mail client can use or so you can import it into google + or diaspora.

I'm a FOSS Linux nerd and run Ghostry, ADblock plus, SES and many other security minded cookie killing add-ons so you are preaching to the choir on this matter

And yet, they launched the xyBoard LTE tablet with no such concerns during this same time -

Verizon Droid Xyboards available online today and in stores on December 12th | The Verge

I just don't believe that anything about this is being done for our good or to protect the wonderfulness image of the Nexus or reduce customer complaints.

I don't think the Xyboard has anywhere near the high profile as the Gnex OR the amount of units that would have gone out the door on Friday.

I understand your logic, but think its a apples/oranges comparison.

And it wasn't done for "our good". Can you imagine the backlash if the phone hit the market and people couldn't get data? Verizon's name would have been drug thru the mud.....not to mention the man power to handle all of the calls and complaints.

OT:

Paul may still go to the Lakers. Not sure how I feel about this. I very much dislike the Lakers, but I feel like they may be throwing away their very distinct advantage (size) for star power. Paul, Kobe, Artest, ?, Bynum. Sounds frightful, but I'm almost certain Bynum, Gasol, Odom, Artest and Kobe was a far tougher thing to deal with.

I just hope my Chi-town Bulls come out with a SG to compliment Mr. Rose.

How about a link that _substantiates_ the idea that the Nexus has an LTE issue that is being fixed by an update?

A lot of the testers that have had this phone for several weeks have been complaining about poor LTE performance/signal strength. That is substantial enough for me. GMK83 told us all he got 4.0.3 yesterday morning and that the update was for patching up lingering LTE issues. When there are people who have the LTE version for several weeks and they talk, I'm prone to listen to them/believe them over some anonymous sources who are likely getting there information from "office chatter"

How about an answer to the point that if they held back the phone because they didn't want LTE network complaints, then why did they launch the xyBoard LTE tablet without that concern?

:)

Because if there is an issue, the issue is with the Nexus radio itself. The Nexus isn't the XYBOARD and Motorola isn't Samsung.

I think Verizon's name would have been drug thru the mud by all of the REzound and Razr owners. Let's not forget - the GNex is not/will not be the only LTE phone out there.

BIG help! Thanks SO much. I'm just stuck with with the iPhone right now and have been dying to get the Nexus for so long that I'm actually considering the "sell iphone, buy global nexus, drop Verizon, get T-Mobile or AT&T" route. Crazy? Probably, but then again, aren't we all dying to get our hands on this phone? :)
Where in vt? And what iPhone? Maybe we could work something out if you have a 4s..

I have found phone sales to be way more helpful than brick and mortar. There appears to be more flexibility when on the phone. I have found one CSR in the three stores in my area that knew what they were doing. Just my two cents. Good luck.

I called 611 and the guy I talked to was less than useless. All he kept telling me was that there was no info available on the nexus and that he couldn't do anything for my upgrade date til the phone was released.

All of the posts from testers and devs that have the phone have been positive about LTE performance from what I've seen. I guess there are competing theories out there. :)

High profile is subjective, isn't it?

And I think it's apples/apples because while I agree that Verizon would not release problems prone to creating customer complaints during the holiday season, then any product release substantiates that's a non-issue.

Can you imagine the backlash of this press headline

- New Holiday Android Tablet Fails on Verizon's LTE Network

I can name several e-publications that would give their eye teeth to run that kind of story, and reach multi-millions of readers in the process.

This is just my opinion, I respect yours as well, wanting to be mega-clear on that (so thanks for responding :)).

I think in dealing with Verizon, George Carlin stated it best.

"Its all bull____ folks. It's all bull____, and its bad for ya."

Don't believe a word they say. Not a thing they do is in our interest, so don't give them credit. This is the data pipe turned into an angry spitting cobra which would sooner kill us and devour us than it would submit.

Give them no quarter, for they will offer none.

I, for one, support the more direct harassment of Verizon Corporate. The people working at stores, and the CSRs, have no power. It does nothing but upset people when we vent our frustration on lowly employees who are just trying to make a decent living and have no more power over the Nexus release than they do over the weather.

So, continue to fight the good fight, but strike at the heart, not the fingers.

CP3 to the Knicks and my dreams come true. (Something to go right for the Knicks, yea right..)

Edit: Same goes for the Giants, and recently the Yanks.

Then you may be right and I was as well when I said I missed something.

My request was for a specific link to your information, though.

For what it is worth I just got done talking to a Verizon National Retail Account Manager at a Best Buy near my house. I have talked to him before and I get the feeling he is a straight shooter. We live near each other and our kids have gone to the same schools, he even encouraged me to return my Razr last week if I did not like it so I don't think he would BS me.... He swears that the delay is being caused by the 4G problems. He said that the latest update he got was in a conference call on Friday morning. They are running on back up servers and as of now have not managed to get the main servers back up. He speculates that it would be bad news for Verizon if they launched the Nexus and it brought the 4G network to it's knees. Especially so close to Christmas. He says that the 15th is within the realm of possibility but he has not been told it will happen yet and he is in charge of a state and a half of stores. The last thing I asked him was why no big advert campaign for the Nexus and he just kinda smiled and admitted that it was going to be a soft launch but would not tell me why.
I know I am just feeding the fire but I would want to know if someone else had experinced this conversation so I figured I would post it.
Here's hoping for the 15th!

There sure are. There have been both positive and negative posts from them.

Our most-hated source P3 for instance had been posting a couple of weeks ago that he was starting to see updates that "dramatically" improved the software and radio. He said that us people waiting around for the Verizon version are "in for a real treat" since they were improving the software end of things. He even went so far as to say "2 weeks ago you would not want this phone. I can tell they are working hard on it"

Not to mention the user here posting yesterday morning about the 4.0.3 update and that it was clearing up some lingering issues.

So, who knows what to believe. COULD there be a corporate issue tying things up. Sure! But I guarantee you, unless it is Verizon who wants Google Wallet support immediately (not likely since they have agreements with ISIS) and Google is telling them no (again not likely since they want this phone out now), then Google Wallet is NOT the cause of all of this. Sprint-only application, given to Sprint by Google, yada yada yada. Starting to repeat myself here. :)
