We got a Sony S a while ago and love the embedded Remote Control App. Any chance of a similar app available for the GNex? If I understand it, unless you have wifi or bluetooth enabled media equipment, you'd need IR capability on the phone and I assume that's primarily a hardware requirement. I saw something about an addon device that would give a smart phone IR capability (Griffin maybe?).

Thanks for any advice.

There's a Sony media controller remote that let's you control the internet connected blue ray and TVs. Worked great on my Droid2, it uses your wifi, not IR. I haven't checked in a few days, but when I got my GNex it wasn't available in the market yet :( waiting for an ics compatible one, but I can't imagine that'll take them too long.

What are you trying to control, exactly? Do you have a cable box?

All of these guys have Android remote-like apps I think:

- Verizon FiOS
- Comcast
- Time Warner
- DirecTV

Other interesting apps:

- Gmote (works with computer/VLC)
- RemoteDroid (works with computer)
- xmbc (works with computer/xmbc)

Most use WiFi but some can at least connect to the DVR and schedule recordings over 3G/4G

I'd like to control non networked media devices and will need an IR solution. The Sony tab did it really easily

Griffin makes one as does Logitech and Peel. The Logitech one is called Harmony Link. Don't have the specific product names handy at the moment for the others however they should be fairly easy to locate via Google.

There is also Google TV Remote that works if you have a Google TV or a Google TV box. It is pretty good for a phone this size, but I also put it on my XOOM too.

Media Remote is available in the market now (v2.3.1). I installed it with high hopes but, alas, it promptly force-closes every time I start it on my GNex. I am unable to sell my "Charge" until they fix this because I use this app ALL THE TIME! So, i have two smart phones hanging around.

I work from home almost every day and I listen to Pandora/Slacker/etc all day streaming from my Samsung blu-ray player. My house is set up so it is just a little too far to consistently rely on IR from my home theater to my office. The wifi connectivity is WAY COOL!

Hey Samsung! Your phone, your Blu-ray player, your app . . . WHY DOESN'T IT WORK??? Fix it already so I can re-coup my $250 for my old phone!
