Root New here, problems changing ROM

Hi all, I'm Brendon.

I'm sorta new to rooting. I rooted my HTC EVO 4 a couple weeks ago and have been running MIUI-108050 ever since. I've since found a few bugs and and am looking at going to the "All In One Sprint Lover's ROM." However, out of all the instructions I have followed including,
flashing a new rom through the ROM manager
Wiping all data, partitions and cache in Recovery,
but so far, I can't get rid of MIUI. After I flash the new rom after following either of the above, when i reboot, it still pulls up with MIUI.
Frustrating.

Any help is much appreciated.

do not use rom manager. it is way to buggy. i would do everything in recovery. and speaking of recovery, i would also switch to amon ra 2.3. it is way better then clockwork mod. also please read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. go to the after rooting section. it has a ton of info inlcuding how to switch recoveries and how to flash roms.

also what rom are you trying to flash? and you should wipe at least minumum data, dalvik cache (found in advanced), and cache before flashing a rom.

but read the guide first. and any questions you have please feel free to ask.

Instead of amon ra, I will suggest using the newer amon ra style recovery 3.11. Also, I would recommend using Calkulin's format all.zip or Viruses Superwipe. These will help in the wiping process

Ok, here's the deal. My phone is rooted and I've used several different ROMS and flashed with no problem. Now I'm using MIUI and would like to switch to something else.

Problem is now I'm not able to boot into recovery to install zip. file. I boot into recovery and when I scroll down and select recovery the phone just reboots into bootloader again. Keep trying with no luck...Please help!

Not sure, but some ideas.

does that rom have fastboot? is it checked on? if so, turn it off.

try pulling the battery for a bit, then reinstall. vol down and then hold power. see if that works.

which recovery do you have> do you have amon ra? have you seen our rooting for gingerbread sticky? read in after root about changing to it.

not sure if tht will really help, all I got right now.

Ok, here's the deal. My phone is rooted and I've used several different ROMS and flashed with no problem. Now I'm using MIUI and would like to switch to something else.

Problem is now I'm not able to boot into recovery to install zip. file. I boot into recovery and when I scroll down and select recovery the phone just reboots into bootloader again. Keep trying with no luck...Please help!

What recovery were you on?

I'd suggest trying to reinstall the recovery. It looks as if it got damaged somehow.

Directions for installing a recovery (snagged from granites post here since he literally just posted it:


1.download the file here.
2.rename the file by erasing the "_RA_2.3" part of the name so that it is only named PC36IMG. make sure not to add ".zip" to the name as windows hides extensions.
3.transfer the file to the root (that means not in any folder) of the sd card.
4.power off (you most likely need to uncheck fastboot. settings/apps/uncheck fastboot.) then press and hold power+vol down.
5.hboot should see the file and select yes to update.
6.select no to reboot because we want to go into recovery and make a nandroid backup.
7.select recovery.
8.select backup and restore and select backup
9. select the first three and wimax. the other partitions do not need to be backed up. always keep one nandroid backup with wimax keys backed up on your computer.
10.now you can reboot.
11.using a file manager of some sort or even through your computer via usb, you should rename or delete the PC36IMG file on your card. otherwise you will be asked to update every time you go to the hboot screen. you do not need that file any more.
Following that you should be able to get back into recovery

I'm using MIUI-108050 and Clockwork Mod recovery. I've been looking for the fastboot option so I can turn it off but I can't find it in any of the settings. So maybe this rom doesn't have fastboot?? If it doesn't then how do I turn fastboot off??

sorry for the delay.

I have not been on that rom. If fastboot is the issue, you can get around it by just pulling the battery for a little while, then putting it back in and hold volume down while you hold down power for a bit.

If that works, it won't take long.

I'd try re installing the recovery per Rx's post if that doesn't do any good.

I was having the same problem after flashing MIUI (although I loved it) but I wanted to try a couple others. I used ODIN to wipe it using "SPH-D700-DI18-8Gb-REL.tar.md5". I rebooted, and it brought my phone back to stock. I put CWM back on and I can flash again.

I'm not sure why MIUI doesn't leave after reflash, but it's a bummer because I like to use the backup/restore to switch between roms. At least my Epic isn't a prisoner to MIUI

hi u can also switch recoverys by pushing through terminal emulater....dont have to always install as a rom in case its easier do to certain issues people may have.oh and amon ra 2.3 plays much better with flashing than clock work as the guides and others have suggested

i believe this is for the epic 4g and not for the evo. you might want to post this tip over there.
