Does anyone else HATE this phone?

the phone is ok to start with look design every things good can't argue.
After you use it for awhile all it does and get worse and worse, errors malfunctions its honestly ridiculous. I probably wipe the thing every week now and sprint doesn't want to help me much, although their never much help to be honest. And to top it off you can't even root the damn htc evo shift 4g

Lol.. not sure if you got a bad phone or what.. but the Shift is a mini beast.

Hate is a strong word, but I do regret getting the Shift. My main regret is getting a phone with a keyboard that I don't really use. It's just unnecessary weight and thickness to me now.

Mine hasn't really had many problems, other than the default text program shifting all over the place mid text, and Sense wanting to reload all the time. Both of those problems were fixed with GO SMS and GO Launcher.

i have the problem were when i am in a app or internet if i hit the home button a white screen apperas with "HTC" and its so annoying i really dislike this phone....

Even though I've moved on to a different phone, the shift was one of the best purchases I ever made.

I wouldn't say hate, but I certainly regret the purchase.

For me, it's been more about the HTC software than the phone itself. I plan to switch to the Apple 4s next year.

I will certainly think twice before buying another HTC phone in the future.

There apparently has been an update to fix the loading screen issue. I cannot confirm as I am running a custom ROM. There is a thread here about it, but I can't link it from my phone...

I second that, especially about switching to the iPhone. I know there's a ton of hate thrown around on the various forums (try Reddit Android, for one) about Android vs. iPhone and fanboys and all that crap, but in the end, I see the phone as a tool, not a toy. For me, for my needs and desires, the iPhone seems to fit the bill better (I could care less about whether I can customize my home screen to some ascetic minimalism or load a picture of some boomin' babe). That's my take.

I love this phone it made me love Androids and all the things you can do to it when you're rooted, it's amazing although I'm still learning I am very pleased with how my phone runs with a custom ROM and some UOT kitchen mods

Absolutely disagree with the author. I love my phone, I've customized it very well and it runs much faster and smoother than a lot of other phones out there. I've liked it ever since I got it, now running a custom ROM that looks just like Sense 3.0 but I got away with the real Sense because it was buggy. I like Launcher Pro much better anyway. It's faster, smoother and way more customizable. I also overclocked it so it runs at 1.5GhZ very stable, almost twice as fast as any regular shift (0.8GhZ). I use the keyboard just as frequently as I use my swype keyboard and I love it. Really the only complaint I have about it is that it drains a lot of battery and that's about it.

I've always really liked my Shift, but now that I've rooted and installed a custom ROM I love it. It's much faster and battery life is much better since I got rid of all the crap. Made a HUGE difference.

Since I've gone to Go SMS and Go launcher, I've got no problems with the phone. I came from first gen Palm Pre and this was a definite upgrade in hardware. I wanted it for the keyboard and still use it. I got FlexT9 input app, it's like swype. Probably about 50-50 on which keyboard I use. I am really happy to have gotten this phone.

Am using the Shift and love it, the Shift that my wife first got was way better than what we have now,She got one of the very first when they came out.it had a transfer widget and also you could uninstall some of bloatware.the Shift, now doesn't have that. It is first,a phone,clarity and signal strong.the rest I can live with. I have a Evo3d that I switced from, the call clarity from Bluetooth sucked,it wasn't just the phone,because the Sprint tech had one and paired different Bluetooths and same issue. Switched to wifes shift and call was clear.she dropped hers in a pan of water and her replacement and the one I have is different from her original,but a great phone,using hers as a hotspot and the 4G on both are great.

Htc has great products with the exception of the 3D,beats Samsung hands down.

I regret ever buying this POS and I am looking at getting something else.

I stepped up from the Samsung Moment so at first this was heaven... now not so much...

Loading issue, the slide is worn out and slides down when I am texting, memory is horrible, I find my self deleting crap all the time just to do updates to my current apps, there is been no updates to fix anything meaningful from HTC, on and on... ridiculous

My wife just got the newest Samsung (Galaxy Epic S-2 etcetc) and it seems like an awesome phone, but it doesn't have a keyboard. If they would make that thing with a keyboard like the original Epic then I would want it for sure. But I hate using onscreen keyboards except for quickie stuff.

I like my Shift OK - I'd just like it a whole lot more if it had 2 gigs of internal storage instead of one, and if I could uninstall NASCAR, Amazon MP3, Kindle, Sprint Football, Twitter, and a couple of other apps I never use.

Yeah the internal storage is a joke compared to the other phones out. 16Gigs on the Galaxy S2 and Nexus.

It just pisses me off that HTC has ignored the issues on the this phone and hasn't and since its been nearly over a year since it's release I doubt there will ever be a meaningful update.

Well when I originally got the phone I was brand new to Android, and figured it wasn't an issue because I was getting a 32g micro-SD card for it. But I didn't realize till sometime later that so many of the apps couldn't be installed to the SD card or uninstalled (at least without rooting).

I mean, seriously, - NASCAR, I will never, never, NEVER use... and it's taking up 5 MB of space on my phone that I very badly need. Same can be said for several other preinstalled apps.

Does rooting solve the problem of the "Memory leak" referred to in other threads, that causes the problems with low app storage space?

Jim- the thing with rooting is that you can get rid of all the crap ware sprint loads on it. Custom roms help with memory... It doesn't change the fact that these phones don't have a ton of memory, but it sure can help. A custom ROM will definitely get rid of the loading screen issues.

Ah... I've not read about that. I gave up on sprint about a month ago, and I didn't have the problem when I still had a shift. I think rooting and loading a custom ROM would definitely help the issue you are seeing. Cyanogenmod is always a good bet, but I bet crump will chime in here and give you some more solid advice since he is way more up to date on the comings and goings of the shift than I am. Lol, I can sell you a shift that's rooted, preloaded with the last cm ROM I was running lol! (I have thought of posting it in the classifieds, just haven't gotten that far)
