Ok, so I want take the OTA to get to .902 today so that I can try out the new ICS build with working data in safestrap. I have some concerns and also just want to confirm what I would need to do.

First: Do I need to flash the FXZ File and go back to complete stock? Here is the information from my phone.

1. I am running safestrap and dual booting the most current version of Kinetix and Liberty
2. I cheescaked a radio around the time cheesecake first came out. I'm not 100% sure what radio I am even on but my versions are:

The main reason why I want to know if I need to go back to complete stock is that if possible, I want to flash the rom here at work (I'm bored) but I can't install RSD Lite on the computer here. So if it's possible for me to just download a stock img and flash it in recovery that would be preferable. I *think* I am still on the upgrade path because I think I cheesecaked an update early, not an experimental one.

So regardless of if I need to FXZ or not, the next steps I want to make sure are correct.

.5a. Return to stock with RSD Lite (if necessary)
.5b. Forever root (if necessary)

If I need to do the above I would skip step 1 and 2 below.

1. Uninstall safestrap
2. Boot into recovery and install stock image.
3. Take .902 OTA (should retain root right?)
4. Re-install safestrap
5. Enable safe system
6. Install ICS Alpha
7. ???
8. Profit

Thanks in advance. This community has been so helpful in the past and hopefully in the future as well. It's sad to see the numbers of Bionic owners dwindling. With the lack of updates to TH3ory roms, I havn't done anything risky to my phone in a while, so I'm a little gunshy and just want to make sure I get everything working right :p

Looks like you are on 5.8.894 which is not an official release or in the upgrade path to my knowledge. So you'll probably want to use one of the pathsaver methods that can be found on this forum, and then apply updates as needed up to 902. Sorry I can't provide more specific information, but I've managed to stay on the upgrade path so haven't had occasion to use them. Maybe someone who has will come along with more specifics.

[edit] Just realized that since you're on a custom ROM, the system version shouldn't matter. I found a screenshot of stock .893 and compared the baseband, kernel, and webtop versions, and they all match yours. So ... you just need to get back to .893 system version and then you should be able to just manually upgrade to .902. Do you have a nandroid backup you can restore?

Be sure to Forever Root before you apply the .902 or you will lose root.

Here's the screenshot I found if you want to compare yourself:

Your picture didn't work but that's ok. I totally forgot about my stock system nandroid :) I'm gonna try restoring to that and see if I can take the OTA. If I nandroid back however I will have to re-do my forever root I guess.

Edit: Well crap. I guess I deleted my nandroid of stock. Th30ry rom is just so dang stable...

In that case you could try doing a factory reset, then root, Forever Root, and install the .902 update. If the OTA doesn't come through you can just download this file, copy to the root of your external SD card, and install it manually from stock recovery.

By factory reset you mean the RSD Lite method right? Factory reseting a custom rom doesn't get rid of it.

I would flash the 5.5.893 fxz file in rsdlite. Here is the file if you need it. 5.5.893 fxz

When you boot up and log in, root and forever root use this tehsusenoh's modified releashed option 2. Check that forever root was successful by using root explorer going to system -bin-mount_ext3.sh view and you should see
chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
chmod 4755 /system/app/Superuser.apk

Then check for an update and install. you should be on 5.9.902 with root.

I tried Dhackers script but it's freezing my computer and not behaving. So now I'm using RSD lite, however that second link for the modified releashed seems to not be downloading properly. as in it's not moving at all...lol

Edit: nevermind... i canceled the first download and now the second one is moving. very strange

So.... tehRoot V1.1.1 worked for me with 5.5.893, you need not spread that around anymore.
