I often get a weird case when I am texting on my MT3G Fender Edition where the cursor just jumps to a previous conversation in the text thread and you have to click in the text area you were typing but as soon as you tap another letter it jumps back out. Its real irritating. Anyone else experiencing similar texting anomalies??

Again, I don't have a Fender, I just have the old Mytouch, but that would happen here and there with mine. The two things I suggest that could effect that -

1. A different texting app, personally I love Handcent and think its the best, but there are others.

2. Maybe a different keyboard, I like HTC_IME, I can send that to you if you'd like cause it isn't in the market. But if you prefer Fender's default Swype, I'd stick with that, change the text app and see if that helps.

I was using Handcent and uninstalled it because I thought that was the cause of the jumping. I've tried "Better keyboard", Cool touch keyboard, swype and the standard keyboard but not the HTC_IME and it still happens. It's really frustrating because I text a lot and you basically have to exit and kill the process before it will stop doing it.

I noticed I can make the cursor jump by shaking the phone so I thought maybe it was the vibrate on key press causing the text to jump. Sure enough when I turn off vibrate or haptic feedback, the text doesn't jump. No I wonder if the phones have a bad accelerometer in them causing the text to jump...

no, i dont think its the accelerometer, it also happened to me, when i first got the phone and im a heavy texter, i remember i used to change to landscape view and it would fix it, but of course its annoying to do that, I don't remember when it stopped working, it was either when i got chompsms or when i got the HTC_IME k/b

I have the same problem on my Fender myTouch. It happens a lot. Have Swype now, but happened before I installed it as well. I also use Handcent (love it, except for the FC or Wait message EVERYTIME I change screens in it, started happening a few updates ago, but that is another topic).

It actually jumps up a line, meaning that if I'm on the first line of a reply, it will jump into previous messages, but if I'm on the second line of a reply, it will jump up to the first line, etc. etc. It's random, happens a few times in a row to sometimes just once. Exiting and restarting text program doesn't seem to make a difference. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

After reading this thread, I'll try the turning off the vibration on touch setting and see if that works. Thanks for the suggestions!

I have found that it did not matter which keyboard i used (better or stock) also the app (handcent or stock) it would jump. The best thing that worked was to remove and delete all conversations (i usually have 100+) and then do a reboot. Then i can type faster then i am typing on the computer and all the lag from the phone is also gone. Kinda nice.

Now i do this every few days. Works great for me and will continue to do this till it stops working.

Just found this thread. It happens to me on HTC Desire android 2.2 using stock keyboard. Haven't tried others as the advice above is that it doesn't fix it. But I did dasudevils advice and clear out the backlog of texts, still did it. Rebooted, seems to have fixed. I reported this to HTC and will pass on this URL too.

Another issue is that I have my SMS limit set to 30, yet it only randomly trims it to 30, even when a new one has come in for a particular string. Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks all.
