Laggy, force closures.

I had the same problems. I was ready to throw this phone through a window. I found out that background services are running that need to be killed. I installed the free Taskiller and started killing apps and the problem when away.

Good Luck

That's not the answer, although it helps. Gmail, the browser, and other apps are still VERY laggy no matter how many apps are loaded on the device or what is or isn't running in the background.

My phone is SOOOOOOO stinkin laggy and slooooooowwwwwwww!!! This is driving me nuts and it causes me to screw up when typing.

This is the same way with nothing loaded on the phone and also with tons of loaded apps.

What in the world is the problem? This is a brand new phone and out of the box it's laggy. What the heck is going on??? I really want to love this phone, but it makes me want to toss it into a wall.

What can I do? Am I the only one here?

Couldn't agree more with all of these negative comments. If this phone was as fast as the Nokia I had 10 years ago then it would be comfortably on par with any of the competition out there. However, I have spent an infuriating week trying to squeeze performance out of this phone and have come to the conclusion that it is basically unusable as it is so slow. I can't get rid of this hateful piece of sh*t quick enough.

I remember when I first received my G1 and it had its issues. I lasted 3 months with it before getting rid of it for the Blackberry 8900. It was mostly due to the battery issues, but the MyTouch 3G CAN BE an awesome phone, but this lag is just horrible and YES makes it almost unusable.

I'm wondering how everyone else is doing on this? I mean come on!!!

Would a master reset help? But what about reloading all the apps? I don't want to search for them again one by one.

sorry to hear your problems. i have had the phone for more than a week and have not had any of the lag issues you describe. my phone is very quick to load up mail and apps. web pages dont show up instantly, even when i am on wifi, but it is definitely no laggy.

taskiller is a great app to make sure i am not running apps i dont need. another useful app is toggle settings where you can easily turn on or off things like 3g or wifi.

i hope you get your issues worked out.

Any phone from 10years ago will be faster as all it does is make calls, nothing more. Your issues are user error or due to 3rd party apps. Go on youtube and watch videos of the device in action so you can see how it should run.
Any computer will run like shit if it is set up wrong

Have tried reinstalling all apps, running firmware and software updates, factory reset. Even when I got the thing out of the box it ran slowly with no apps open, just navigating around the homescreens becomes a long and drawn out affair with a pause of 2-5 seconds after pressing any button.

The hardware on the HTC Touch Pro is essentially a hangover from a 2 year old phone, it cannot cope with what would otherwise be a breathtakingly good UI. I really do want to love this phone but I just can't as it is so impractical for anything other than extremely light use.

P.S. Not all computers that are set up wrong run like shit, infact I pride myself on overloading my computer with tsrs and unnecessary background applications and tasks and watching it fly because there is power in reserve. The HTC hero seems to use all of its resources just by moving the trackball.

I too have experience some real lag issues and i've come to the conclusion that the processor is probably not as strong as it should have been. What i have noticed is that running two or more taxing apps can cause frustration. For example if i'm running Meridian (music player) and i run Sherpa, the audio will stutter and i think it is because the GPS is being activated as well.

To solve these issues I've just tried to adjust by limiting what i run together. I have also installed the taskkiller app and it helps. It would be nice if some updates would run more efficiently but im not sure where the problem lies: the add on apps or the OS itself.

The verdict is still out on to whether i will keep this phone. I was seriously hoping to replace my ipod touch and combine it with my phone. I like the phone but i need to see some improvements in performance.

Well, I have had it. I have done everything to adjust for the performance issue from a brand new phone. Then I started to think, why in the hell do I have to do all this extra closing down apps constantly? Tmobile/HTC/Google should have did a better Quality Assurance job on this phone. It is not up to par. It is not ready for prime time.

I was at work and accidentally hit the play on my bluetooth and the media started playing on the phone (really loud might I add) while at work in a crowded environment. I start trying to access the phone to hit the pause button. The damn thing was unresponsive to me. Finally after two minutes of embarrassment I took the cover off and thumped the battery out.

Same thing happen when a I tried listening to a voicemail. The damn phone was on speaker and I couldn't get a response to stop the voicemail.

Text is great when it is keeping up, but once the lag starts, I am 5 words in front of the device all the time.

I have had it, the phone is going back tomorrow. I really wanted to love this phone. I had big expectations. This is a bad look for Google/Tmobile/HTC. I would love to hear who they would blame for these issues that seem to be common in every forum you visit. I get so tired of everyone saying reboot the phone, use Taskiller, don't run multiple apps, download an app. Those are horrible answers for something that has soooo much promise.

It sounds like this is a problem with only the tmobile version as the rogers version doesn't seem to slow down so much. Is the rom heavily customized? I can run many apps at once and not have a noticeable lag.
The only lag I seem to have is when typing in the web browser. Typing in any other app is fast. Its a shame that they screwed this phone up as I have been very impressed with mine.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tmobile "customized" the Android so much that it creates these incompatibilities. They're just adding on layers of "crapware" like Dell does to their laptops, slowing the overall system down.

Actually its the opposite... since the OS is from google and you get the "google experience" on tmo you are getting the real os where as phones like HERO which comes from HTC have improved the UI but added SO much crap it doubled the size of the build and the requirements to run as smoothly...

Yup. Same thing happened to me. Best part was that imeem decided to play a cheesy 80s R&B love song. It's no Pandora )-: The act of pulling the battery saved me from further humiliation, but the damage had already been done. Beware, people!

I'm using a rogers magic and also haven't had problems. The gmail app, for example, loads in no more than 2 seconds. Probably closer to 1. However, it does take a while to load most web pages. Certainly nothing I would return the phone over but..

I also noticed that the browser, is well sh*t. I was looking through alternative browsers, and they all were very disappointing, including Opera Mini. But I found a browser called Steel, which is amazing, it is easier to use than the default browser (don't always have to click menu) and it is like 3 times faster.
