Root Desire shut off randomly

Hi there,

My phone randomly shut off when I wanted to play Angry Birds. It then rebooted but I was unable to access content/apps which were stored on the SD Card.

I am using Oxygen ROM and I have been using this rom since August 2011 with no issues until now. I have had the Desire for 1 year and 4 months. The SD Card has 30MB free.

To resolve the issue I had to switch my phone off wait for 10 minutes and then turn it back on again. The SD card was detected and the apps were loaded in the app tray.

Eventhough the issue has been resolved for now, does anyone know why this issue occured in the first place?

Thanks in advance,

Probably a kernel panic lead to a shell reboot. This did an unclean dismount of the ext partition. As it was only a shell reboot, the ext partition was still partly in use, locking it from being remounted.

Being off for a while released the lock and now all is ok.

Of course this is conjecture and how constructive "knowing" this can be, I don't know

Hi, thanks for that. The issue did occur again but i solved this again by shutting down the phone and switching back on.

I also uninstalled an application i had downloaded from the market which i suspect could have been causing the issue.

Since then the phone is ok but I will keep my eye on it.

Hi Jules - welcome to the Forum!

Firstly from reading your post you seeem to be trying to run before you can walk. As you are unrooted, you have no rom to reflash as such. You will have the stock rom (assuming you are either Froyo (2.2) or Gingerbread (2.3) - can you clarify which you have?) This is important as it determines which method you must undertake to obain root (i.e. You cannot use the Unrevoked method if you're running 2.3 etc.). And if you are to root your Desire to sort out your battery - are you sure this is the best way to do so? A factory reset may do the job you're looking for or deleting/uninstalling a dodgey app. Or, if it's hardware, rooting/flashing will not fix this and you will need to send it off to be repaired and you will have to unroot anyway.
If you want to root, we recommend you set aside a few hours and read all the guides which are provided in the stickies under the "All things Root" sub-section of this forum gound here. These guides have been created, compiled and continuously updated by the experts on this board and should answer everything you need to know to enable you to root your phone. If you follow the relevant instructions and hit a wall, feel free to yell for help!

Good luck!
