i have been a pretty happy VM customer but i am sick of my motorola triumph and hardware issues. I have gone through 3 replacements. Also for the last 1-2 months i have always 1-2 bars of reception and 100-300 kbps download, 800 kbps upload, all month. I am thinking of going to Straight talk because i see people in my area getting speeds of 2-3 mbps data. But that company has its problems too.
should i be getting better speeds? is it a phone problem?
should i wait for new phones and hopefully the 4g from VM?
im in NYC btw

Sprint's 3G (whose towers VM uses) are congested at the moment, mainly after they took on the iPhone 4S. They're launching LTE in the next few months as well as letting VM use their 4G WiMax network, which should free up room on their 3G network, thus speeding it up.

Well, that's what's supposed to happen anyway lol.

That will only happen in areas that have a strong 4G presence. In places like Oklahoma City (where I am) we only have 4 WiMax towers. It won't do a lot. I'm really contemplating moving to T-mobile because my speeds are hard to take right now. I just don't know about only 100 minutes.

Not all of them. ;) Sprint has been working on data capacity upgrades in a lot of areas for quite some time. My area in the last 6 months just received 1 voice upgrade, 1 data capacity upgrade, and 2 data speed upgrades. More are planned over the next 6 months (8 more voice upgrades, 8 more data capacity upgrades, and 4 more data speed upgrades).

Check your area here, and see what (if any) upgrades have happened and/or are planned.

I did that a while ago and in my current area, there's gonna be 1 data capacity upgrade in the next 6 months.
