Will android ever expand to the car?

Anyone know if we'll ever start to see android on other devices besides just phones and tablets? I'd like be able to run android in my car on my in-dash DVD/Bluetooth/GPS/etc etc unit. Right now it just runs Windows compact edition 6.0. And that's probably all it can ever run I'm sure. But do yall think we will ever see a day when those in-dash touch screen units will be running android? I would love it.

I don't see why they wouldn't. It may not be the android you use every day. I imagine car manufacturers would try to put their own spin on it, but I don't see why they would spend the time developing their own software with the amount of open source code there is out there for android. GPS navigation, audio and video player, a decent browser, and more than enough computing power to handle things like traction control and fuel usage. And all that for a few hundred bucks, which they will then charge $2500 for.

Awesome! I'll be getting on of those for my next unit in my other car. Provided they come with enough RAM. I'm of the mind that these units need at least 512Mb. My windows CE 6.0 one has 512Mb and it runs great. As for cheap, that's really not bad at all. Those types of units commonly run anywhere from $800-$2500 depending on what brand, where you buy, etc. I paid $400 for mine.

Just a quick warning: I believe both of the units I posted ship from outside the U.S. I bought a tablet w/o knowing that I was doing business with a company in China (the site gave no indication) and my cc information was used in another state a little over a month later.

Probably common sense, but I'll be using Visa gift cards to buy from anyone I've not purchased from before.
