Petition For Memory Cards on Future Nexus Devices

All in all, I'm good with no SD card. I the the whole idea behind Google keeping it all internal, and to a degree agree with it.

But please, if you're going to go with only Internal memory, at least offer a 64GB version. 32GB internal is becoming pretty standard, and if you figure a person is going to add their own card up to 32GB, you're giving them what a phone with a slot would have. Unless of course you figure they're using Micro SDXC, then you'd be able to fit in 128GB... but that would probably be pushing it.

EDIT: Oh, and online petitions are pretty pointless.

Any owner of an OG Incredible will destinctly remember that lovely, and oh so annoying "low storage" warning that would pop up...all...the...time.

Not having a SD card is down right STUPID.

AT first I didn't give a shit about the memory card.

A couple days ago my phone bricked itself doing nothing (seems to be a common issue - the warranty guy didn't even ask me ONE question and sent the new phone instantly).

I had to start from SCRATCH because my phone would not turn on. The SD card is internal and now I lost everything.

Was an IDIOT idea. Put in SD cards you lazy fools!

The irony here is that you should have been making periodic backups anyway. Even if you had an SD card. SD cards have their own fair share of reliability issues. I've had a couple SD card die on me before, and I made the mistake of having nothing backed up the first time. Sometimes you have to learn the hard way.

The reason for no memory cards is that there's no point having removable storage today, because the only reason it's removable is to swap data between devices.

IMO, the main benefit of removable storage is not to move data between devices, it's the ability to increase your storage without having to buy a new device. I've had multiple devices with micro SD cards, and not once did I use them to move data between devices.

At one time I said I wouldn't buy a device without removable (expandable) storage. That was when I had my OG Droid, which mounted the removable storage as /sdcard. Then I got a Bionic, which had /sdcard and /sd-ext. /sd-ext (the removable card) was virtually useless, because most apps didn't know or care about it. Then I "upgraded" my son from a Droid X (removable storage mounted as /sdcard) to a Droid X2, which has a setup similar to the Bionic, but it's /sdcard is limited to 4GB. He never had issues with running out of space on his X, but has hit the wall with his X2. Until Google, device manufacturers, and developers can get it together and make removable storage more usable, I have no problem with not having it.

That said, I also have no problem with having it either. Including a slot for it, even if it's empty, will make the devices attractive to more people.

Here is my question. If the next phone comes in 32gig and 64gig versions will it matter?
Will it matter if the phone is 64gigs but there are 128 and 256 gig SD cards out there?

I ask this because people get bent out of shape right now over a phone with 32gigs and would always say things like "i have to have 64gigs" while 2 years ago its the same comment but "i have to have 32gigs".

I had a factory reset done on my phone a few weeks ago. right before that I did a google server backup. Got my phone back, did a google restore. Everything back where they should be. No SD card hassle. But just to be safe, I also copied my internal storage to my pc. whats the big deal?

Not really a solution though, since you then don't get a Nexus device. I personally like the idea of the cloud/wireless transfers instead of an SD card, though I think the next Nexus should have at least 32GB of storage. That should be more than enough to store a few HD movies and most people's entire music collection, and still have loads of space left.

The cloud concept would work better though if things like digital cameras could at least do Bluetooth/WiFi stuff. Some can, but very few. Although that only really benefits professional photographers in the long run; the days of point and shoot cameras are numbered. Optical zoom, mechanical focus, and bigger sensor just aren't enough of an advantage for a lot of people.

So yeah. Cloud all the way. I just wish Google Music operated outside the US so I didn't have to keep deleting and then retransfering my whole collection just to sync between my phone and my computer (since MTP is so badly supported by a lot of sync software, it seems).

Well, there is a 32 GB Galaxy Nexus. Its only on the CDMA version though. You GSM users were supposed to get one, but Google and Samsung decided against it (I think it was because of poor sales of the 16 GB?). Which is ironic since a lot of people were holding out for the 32 GB version.
