Root Reading material?

Any good books on linux, and kernels.. say for begginers/text book style?

The more I get frustrated by root, roms, the more I'm intrigued by it

Haven't put my phone or computer down for the longest time. I get off of work and just want to keep tinkering. Get home from the gf's and right back at it. Sure eat, maybe sleep a little then work agian but still fiddling with my phone

Where do I start aside from paying for a class?

Install linux on your computer and learn the shell.

yup download Ubuntu and install. In my experience its the easiest to get working but you still can learn alot with it. Since Ubuntu is geared towards newb's (just works ) their forums are uber friendly as well (or used to be anyway) so a good place to get your feet wet. My $.02 There are many flavors to try just my best experience with linux, You can even throw one of the "slimmed" down versions on an ancient pc if you don't want to test on your shiny new one. I ran xubuntu on a PIII laptop and used it as a media player in the garage for a while. It wasn't a speed demon but was acceptable for playing some tunes and looking up something on the web real quick.
