Root [Verizon] Please help can't make calls or text 99% of the time

jbrian420

Newbie
After Flashing Beans town rom and then Synergy my phone does not work properly. 99% of the time I can't make calls or text out. However texts come in fine and data works fine including 4g and 3g. In the odd chance that my phone actually does dial out I get one phone call and afterwords my data drops down to 1x untill I restart the phone.

I have tried flashing back to stock with Odin and formated my phone numerous times. I also took my phone to verizon and they replaced my sim card. They couldn't replace my phone in the store because I bought it from a retailer 200 miles away.

If you have any insight please help.

Have you gone completely back to stock using odin? If not thats what I would do. I have used both beanstown and synergy roms and have had no problems with either. Did you do a factory reset/wipe, cache wipe, and delvik cache wipe before installing any rom?

I didn't reset data when going from beanstown to synergy and everything appeared to be working fine. Halfway through the day everything stopped working so I'm thinking maybe the phone is to blame but can't help but think I messed up the settings.

I did however reset factory, wiped cache and then tried odin back to factory and still having same issues.

My radio randomly switches between 1x and 3g (don't have 4g coverage where I am currently) and when it is in 1x the phone usually works however has really bad quality.

I previously had a droid x that I tweaked all the time and flashed over 100 times with no issues like this. I only had this phone for 5 days and rooted it the day I brought it home and have had this issue for the past 2 days. It is really driving me nuts and so far wishing I had another Motorola phone so I could use rsdlite.

well ODIN is the Samsung equivalent of RSDLite...so that is not your issue...

a factory reset/ODIN flash (if done right) should have solved any problems caused by the Beans-->Synergy dirty flash...but i can't help but think that youre experiencing some left over repercussions of that

But doesn't Odin flash with back to stock tar file reset everything back to stock?

What puzzles me is everything still works but intermittently.

yes it does...if you're completely stock...and its not working right....my only suggestion is to flash a completely stock un-rooted ODIN file and try returning the phone to VZW for a replacement

Thats what I will do. Unfortunately though I bought my phone from a retailer and am out of town on business so I gotta wait till Saturday to go home and replace my phone at the store I bought it from or replace it at a Verizon store for a refurbished phone. In the meantime I am trying everything to fix it. I really want to know what I did wrong or be able to fix it or else this might happen again when I get a replacement phone.

well...

Rule #1 of flashing is to wipe data...ESPECIALLY if you are changing ROM's like going from Beans to Synergy

I know that I just got lazy and didn't feel like reinstalling everything. I got away with it atleast a few dozen times on my old droid x.

unfortunately thats why its called "dirty flashing"

personally i wipe data even when a dev says its not needed...

Speed kills.

Haste makes waste.

I don't recommend tempting fate, asking for trouble and then blaming the phone.

Odin flash does not erase your data and whatever bad juju you put there. Format/wipe everything (from recovery) and then flash by deliberately following instructions (to include ensuring you have the correct ROM).

I also modified the build.prop file in system folder to get google wallet to work according to instructions. Is it possible this could have created my problem? What does Odin flash to stock and a wipe leave behind on the phone that could still cause problems? I am determined to fix this and am confused why odin doesn't actually wipe everything and return my phone to a stock state.

Did you FDR and wipe everything? If not, it could be bad juju.

Put your build.prop back to see if the problem clears.

One last question

my imei data on my phone displays 99000115333053 / 01 but on the back of my phone under the battery it displays 990001153330534

Could this be the problem?

edit: actually the first number was found within service menu *#06# but under system about page it displays 990001153330534

dude if you didn't do a factory reset/wipe, cache wipe, and delvick cache wipe before installing a rom then that should be the first thing you try before look at others things as the problem. if you don't wipe before changing roms it can make crap screwy.
