The "right" way to charge your battery?

Hi all,

Because my last phone's battery drained completely before the day was up, I would often have it on a charged overnight and for at least an hour or two during the day. I'm told that this may actually be WHY my battery was crap.

Now with my brand-new Galaxy S3 I don't want to make the same mistake. What's the best way to charge? Should I let it go down to XX% before plugging it in, and then unplug as soon as possible after it reaches a full charge? If that's not possible, what's worse--charging before it is drained (or mostly drained) or leaving it plugged in too long, like overnight?

I got the desktop dock thingy when I bought the phone, and the guy told me it was OK to leave the phone plugged in and charging on that overnight, but not to do it with the direct cord. I don't understand that at all, but if anyone here confirms it I'll go along.

So what say you, experts?

If you do a search you'll see this is a much debated topic.

If you're getting less than day then its likley down to usage though some people have seen duff batteries.

In terms of charging just use as you need and charge as you need.

Unless you start managing services i.e. wireless, 3g, GPS etc. You'll not see much difference however you charge.

The first 5 charges, let it completely charge up to 100 without break (leaving it plugged in all night won't hurt since you'll notice it'll slowly drop down to 95 then charge back up to 100)

Then do your best not to put it back on the charger until the battery completely depletes and dies on its own.

Do this for 5 charge cycles and you should have fairly improved battery life.

Also if your a root user you'll have option calibrate battery which also helps if you think your battery drains faster than what it should be.

Completely wrong and not applicable to modern batteries.

The main rule is not to discharge the battery completely too often, less than once in a month.

P.S. This is not a topic for discussion. Check battery university.
