High Ram usage and many apps open on International S3. Strange

I have the Korean Galaxy s3 (quad core 2gb of ram) and am overall pleased with the phone.

A couple of minor "complaints" though.

I know Quadrant score is not accurate all of the time but, for the specs of the phone, the Quadrant score seems a bit low? It's roughly 5300 every time I run it. Correct me if I'm wrong but, it should be a bit higher?


But, the main problem I'm having seems to be the High ram usage and the amount of applications open.

I read the article about how unused ram is a waste of ram. I see the points in the article.

But what's strange is that I have barely any applications running/open at the same time and my ram usage is 1.15gb out of 1.75gb. And when I clear the memory, it says 50 applications were (what the??) closed. Every single time after about 30 minutes or so it'll say 50 applications were closed.

Also even if I clear the ram, it'll never go below 600mb out of 1.75gb.

The phone does lag sometimes. I just find it strange that the ram usage is so high and there are so many "unknown" applications running when I've barely opened any applications.

Forgive my "noobness". I'm still a bit new with this.

Your ram usage should always be high. Unused ram is wasted ram. Android uses all the ram and clears it as needed for new apps. That's why task killers are useless since Google released Eclair (Android 2.0).

Not really. Something cached but not using CPU cycles is insignificant in regards to battery use.

Depends on what you're looking at. if you're long pressing the home button, that's not a task list, that's a recent apps list. Apps listed there aren't necessarily running.

if your're looking in Applica Manager under "running", probably started by a service. There's tons of stuff used by the system, not to mention background synching, location services, etc.

That's one of the reasons killing those apps to conserve battery is counterproductive. The system will restart what it needs and that takes cpu cycles and sd access which drains the battery more than leaving it in memory.
