Help Will this cause confusion?

When I called for a replacement, the representative would give me an order number that's a few digits off from the one I get to track my replacement phone and tells me to put the order number he gives me into the envelope. Well, I thought he made a mistake and gave me the wrong order number so I just used the tracking order number and slipped it in the envelope with the replacement phone. Turns out, the order number he gave actually has a definite purpose.

Will this cause great confusion? Because I sent back the phone with the order number emailed to me to track my replacement phone instead of the one he told me. I thought it was a mistake because the two order numbers were only a few digits off.

The tracking order number, when entered on the website, has my info on it and the order number he gave me didn't so that is why I thought he made a mistake and the fact that the two numbers were very similar.

The number that they give you should be written on the outside of the envelope, putting the invoice number instead might slow the process of the phone being credited to your account by an additional few days. I also make a copy of the invoice and include that in the envelope because it has the name, address and account number so no matter what they know where it came from.

Oh okay thanks. But will they still know it's me? Since the invoice number still shows my name and address on their website?

Even if you don't include anything, they will still know that it's your phone. They keep track of all of the meid numbers. It might take a few extra days.
