Cell standby uses all the battery? Really?

This camera has no cell radio, and on top of that I tried putting it into airplane mode, and cell standby still shows as accounting for almost all the battery drain:

Hopefully, this just means the stat is totally bogus, not that Nikon shipped a version of android that spends all its time desperately attempting to talk to a nonexistant cell radio :).

I found this google bug report:

Issue 17497 - android - Wi-Fi only tablets - Cell Stanby using battery resources on Honeycomb - Android - An Open Handset Alliance Project - Google Project Hosting

I'm betting the same problem happens with the even older gingerbread shipped on the camera.

I recently got this camera and something that really bugs me about it is its inability to charge while in Android. This is a problem for many reasons but especially since it is a battery hog when playing around or uploading pics.

Do you know if this is a hardware limitation or can it be altered with root access or a custom rom. I love the camera but I will probably return it if it is hardware.

Thanks

Seems to be hardware, I suspect disabled deliberately so they can sell the A/C adapter or spare batteries and external charger, but at least you can buy 3rd party versions and not give Nikon any more money to reward this scam :).

That is so sad, and so crippling to a device that has so much potential. I love "instant upload" like features and was really looking forward to it with this camera. The problem is that when the screen turns off after 1 sec, the wifi turns off. So, I have to constantly tap the screen while it uploads photos.

I thought, well, I'll just plug it in and I can get around the "power saving" features of the screen or wifi turning off. I plug it in and it asks me if I want to charge it and then it shuts down to charge.

It had to have been a choice on their part to have it shut down when charging. Every single MP3 player, GPS, and cell phone that I've owned over the last 10 years could charge and be used at the same time.

If I do keep the camera (I really want to, but it is looking slim at this point) I will for sure get third party accessories.

Hopefully the Samsung Galaxy Camera won't be limited by these types of faults and won't cost an arm and a leg (considering the size of its screen and the fact that it has a cell radio & runs Jelly Bean makes me think it will be at least $600 :( )

In Settings > Display you can adjust the standby time. Make the screen stay on as much as 1/2 hour if you are willing to have the battery drain faster :).
