Root [ROM] MTDEV-CM9 build 20130120 [BETA]

G60 I have a question about one of your other roms if you don't mind me asking on this one

I would post in the other section where the ROM is so we can stay on point with CM9. I will pop over and answer it though.

LOL, whispering...'cyanogenmod' ba naaaNaaa maa naaaaa. Is that you whispering the ringtone G60 ? Going to keep that ringer for a bit... kinda skrillex-esk mixed with another I can't place right now...

LOL! You know it's me haha :D:D LOL no clue could be anyone. I may have to stick an Easter egg in the the ROM at some point, maybe a picture, or a wav, or something.

Sounds good, because I format more than anyone on the forums (trust me) it could just be me having these issues :stupido2:. Since I am doing about 5-10 builds a week and sometimes more my phone gets a lot of wipes. However now that I have finally solved all the 3G issues I will now be using my dev phone to do all my work! Kind of excited since I won't be reloading my daily all the time LOL!

BETA TEST SCORE CARD
3G: 10
GPS Locks: 7
Wifi: 10
MMS: ??
SMS: 10
Speed: 7
Battery Life: 6
Tethering WiFi/USB: ??
Video Performance: 8
Your personal thoughts of the ROM: Read on...

Okay, I've been using the 20121023 build for about 24 hours now and here are my thoughts: I formatted cache, data, and system before installing and still had root after installing. I tested this by installing ES File Manager, enabling Root Explorer, mounting the system folder as writable, deleted the bootanimation.zip from the system/media folder and replaced it with a different boot animation and rebooted - the new animation played. I'm also not getting repeated SU requests - it's automatically granting ES File Manager SU access when I start it. I put ?? next to the options above that I didn't test at all. Here are my notes that I took while using the ROM:

- Apollo Music App steals Bluetooth input (headset commands) from other apps (MortPlayer Audio Books). MortPlayer is set to default player in the configs and this works fine on any other ROM
- Had issues where the phone wouldn't deep sleep. I thought it might be because Bluetooth was enabled but after troubleshooting for a bit that wasn't the problem. It's hard to replicate this issue intentionally
- Intermittent "Bluetooth Share has stopped" error messages. Seems to occur a lot right after a reboot
- Torch app doesn't work. Error "Unfortuntely, Torch has stopped"
- GPS takes a long time to lock. The two times I used GPS it took between 2 and 4 minutes to get a lock. I only gave it a 7 above because of the accuracy mentioned below
- Battery life is not great, but not horrible. I'm coming from Froyo U9000 so ICS is definitely going to be "heavier"

+ Wi-fi connects very fast
+ Bluetooth seems to work great except the error messages above
+ Video / screen much more responsive than CM7, but not as good as U9000. Had periods of sluggishness where I had to tap multiple times to get taps to register, especially on the lock screen (PIN access) but it happened everywhere (home screen / multiple apps) intermittently
+ GPS accuracy was actually pretty good which surprised me because in previous CM9 versions it was awful. It was almost on par with the U9000 ROM. I only walked one mile though so it's hard to completely give the accuracy a thumbs up without more testing

I only sent and received about 10 SMS messages but it was working fine for me. None of them went above the message limit and needed to be split though. No one sent me an MMS messsage so can't comment on that. Speed was good compared to CM7 but I'm used to using the U9000 ROM and Froyo is definitely faster, but I think that's to be expected. I listened to Pandora for about 30 minutes using my data connection and it didn't stop or buffer at all so I had to give it a 10, but I didn't really put it through any extended use. I don't use tethering so I can't comment on that.

As I mentioned plenty of times above I'm coming from the U9000 ROM so my expectations may be different from those coming from CM7. My wet dream is for MTDEV to get CM9 running as fast and working as well as the U9000 / Sharp ROMs and this build is definitely a huge step in the right direction. g60madman and the rest of the team definitely deserve a pat on the back.

With that said I have to go back to U9000 because I need to be able to control my audio app with my Bluetooth Headset and I've been spoiled by the speed and battery life of U9000. I'll definitely be back to test future versions though.

ETA: I just went for another one-mile walk on my break and it took the GPS about 3 minutes to grab 8 satellites but accuracy was still pretty bad. I started walking anyway and my GPS data shows that about 4 or 5 minutes later it finally tightened up the accuracy to where my actual location was. Once it was able to get accuracy it was very good for the remainder of the walk, so this is definitely very promising. If the lock speed could be improved then I think the GPS on CM9 would be right up there with Sharp / U9000. I will update as I do more GPS testing (hopefully) this weekend when I'm able to go on some 5-mile runs.

Anyone know if there's a way to center the clock in the status bar? Just something I find to be more aesthetically pleasing. :p

Well, the code as I have read it has the notifications starting from the left and the status bar starting from the right. I know it seems obvious, but I don't know how to make the status bar start from the middle yet. That and g60 has been killing the code with his WIP stock. As my project (CM6, gotta learn somewhere) gets going I can look into it as it will probably work on my thing too.

Serious Wi-Fi problem.
I was using CM7 until I got sick of the Wi-Fi issues. So I upgraded to CM9 thinking that it would fix it.

Here's the problem: After screen gets dark for 10-20 minutes, I wake my phone and Wi-Fi doesn't work (icon is white instead of blue).

Here's what I did: I did factory reset, clear data, clear cashe, clear danvisk. Installed new rom and gaps (reboted 4 times over time). Changed Wi-Fi sleep policy to never (checked it several times) and connected to Wi-Fi. After pressing sleep button and waiting 10-20 minutes Wi-Fi stops working.

Exact same problem as CM7.

If you guys could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Well I don't know if this is a fluke but I went into

Settings < Developer Options < Check Mark "Force GPU rendering"

It seems to be even more smooth, and faster than before?!? If others could try this and see if you see performance changes I would appreciate it.

Well yeah... I'm a newbie bit I did this and I opened 10 different apps... I'd swear it was about 30% faster opens...that possible?

*the camera isn't working though, BwaaaWahhh ,hehe

Ok, with gpu checked I opened and played angry birds space...then I rebooted, turned gpu off, opened and played... seemed about the same so... I'm sure there is a better way to gauge this...
