Default ringtone assignment overrides Contact's ringtones.

After setting up some contacts ringtones to various song files, I set a yet-different song as the Phone Default ringtone. After setting up that default, all contact defaults were switched back to the Phone Default. Does yours work that way?? I'm not sure if this behavior was present on GB.

(Prior to setting a song as the default, calls from my contacts would ring with the appropriately assigned ringtones)

Yep, that was present in GB as it happened to me on several occasions about a year ago. I haven't seen it yet under ICS. Only way I found to fix it was to delete the contact and rebuild it.

all i did was go to the affected contacts and assign the proper ringtone (song). i have received calls from them and it worked. My issue is that it appears that any time we change the default, it is going to wipe out all the custom ringtones for contacts.

Oh, well, yes, I had to go assign all the custome ringtones again once I did the FDR. They stayed set. I thought you meant that they wouldn't stay set. Last year shortly after I got my Bionic I noticed that for some contacts (not all) I would go under, set a custome ringtone, and it would revert back to the Droid default.

right. they stay set until I assign a default phone ringtone for non-contact calls. at least that's what seems to have happened, given the timing of me assigning the default shortly before a call from a contact alerted me to the problem.

I don't think I'm good at accurately explaining things about the phone. :)

I had the same thing happen after updating and doing a FDR. I found an app called "Ringo" that allows you to set seperate ringtones for your contacts. It works great!
