Root First time rooting, making sure I do it right.

I updated to 2.1 foolishly and now I want to have rooted 2.1 with one of the many custom roms. Now from my understanding, I basically have to follow these steps here,

To get it back to 2.0.1 and then root it using this http://rootyourdroid.info/files/update.zip

Correct? Or did I miss a step?

Looks like you're on the right track. I would however recommend (highly) that you go step by step through this guide after you flash your phone back to 2.0.1

This guide does more than just root your phone. It takes you through SDK setup on your computer which gives you ADB (the most important tool we have IMO).
