Root Root for htc evo 4g help please

can som1 please help me help me root my evo.... ive tried all methods like the HTCDev one and i get lost and all the others are confusing =[

Can you also post back what your bootloader screen says? Does it say "Locked-oow" or "Unlocked" at the very top?

o.k..just go to the guide I linked and read carefully.
Basically you are going to use the HTC dev site to unlock your bootloader so it will say "unlocked"

The next step will be to install a custom recovery. The recovery is another mini OS on your phone where you will install roms, clean stuff, fix stuff etc.

The next step will be to flash a custom rom.
(If you desire not to flash a custom rom, but remain on the rom you have, you just need to flash the superuser .zip.)

That's the jist of rooting. I recommend flashing a custom rom which will have the superuser already cooked into it.

yep just follow the guide that mikey linked and do the HTCdev method. i have the necessary file already for you. there is no need to download sdk tool kit like the website tells you to do. just skip that step.

so basically here is what you do:
1.download and get the android folder setup
2.get the identifier token from your phone.
3.enter the token into the HTCdev website
4.you will get an email with the unlock token.bin file
5.fastboot command the .bin file and your done!!!!

hope that helps. and please like mikey suggested........ask away if you get stuck or have questions. and read and read and then read some more before doing this.

In the guide that I linked, look for this:

the setup
you will need to download these files:
adb.exe
fastboot.exe
AdbWinApi.dll
HTC Sync 3.0.5551
Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
make sure that you have htc sync installed and that you have the latest java running.

On your desktop, create a folder and call it "Android"
Take the first three files after downloading them and move them to that folder...don't run them or unzip them..just move them into the folder.

Take the HTC sync and the Java after downloading them and run them.
That is all you need as far as files are concerned. Whatever the website tells you to download, you do not need it...Ocn has provided these files here.

lol now when i get the unlock code n stuff and i do it and all and when i got to use the unlockcode.bin thing (the thing u get in ur email to download) i get "acess denied"
