So I'm skimming the Samsung page that discusses the new features for Jelly Bean and learned that I can now use the S Pen to hand write things on the S Planner. (Scroll to Enhanced Handwriting)

Only works in landscape mode, month view.
With this view displayed, click the options (three horizontal lines) in upper right corner.
Choose "Enable Handwriting mode"
Write, circle, doodle or otherwise mark up your calendar.
If you return to the options and choose "Disable Handwriting mode" your writing disappears, but if you reenable it, it returns.

Fun!:)

Yes, it does seem rather strange it is only the month view that has this mode.
As John mentions above in month view with only a small box to write on it's not much use.....

Having said that I've been using it for a while now but not in writing but for 'Highlighting' any particular appointment, just to bring it to my attention better.
I colour code the Highlighter which gives me an instant view of the priorities.
That way I can plan much better in advance.

Also, if you know one particular day in advance is a bad day for any appointment apply a Red Highlighter Cross over the day. That way it makes it much simpler to plan ahead.

You can use the pen in other views, but it will act in a handwriting-to-text capacity vs. leaving your handwritten notes or doodles. I find it easier to write appointments than type them...or sometimes just use the mic and dictate the appointment. Nice to have options!

Thanks for the info.

I was hoping that the planner would allow use of the pen in other views, not just the month view. Also, there's not much room in month view to write much. Pity you can't zoom in/out on each day and write stuff.

Unless I'm missing something of course.

Dear 13ilgal,
I recently bought a Galxy note 10.1 but I cannot seem to find a way to write on the monthly view of the S Planner. Are there variations in galaxy note 10.1 because of which this function is available on some and not on others? My device information is as follows if it is of any help.
Model no : GT-N8000
Android version 4.0.4
Baseband version N8000XXLI1
Kernel version 3.0.15-1083573
Build number IMM76D.N8000ZSALI1

Thankyou very much.

I am a novice at all this. How do I update it to jelly bean. Do I have to pay for it or is it something I get after I run my software update from settings. By the way I did run the software update and the results came out "No update available". Also I am located in Hongkong and I bought my device here.

Thanks for your help.

All updates to your operating system are free and are obtained either using the PC software Kies or OTA (Over the Air) from Settings/About device/software update.

Looking at your Baseband N8000XXLI1 tells me you have the China ROM.
Looking at the list of available ROM updates Jelly Bean 4.1.1 was released once in Dec N8000ZCBLL3 and again later this month in Jan N8000ZCBLL5
As such you should be able to update your Note 10.1 easily.

Check again on the device if it is available, if not you will need to attach your Note to your PC and update using Kies.

I tried Kies but no updates there. I called the Samsung customer service here in Hongkong and they told me that jelly bean is not yet available for Hongkong. As to yet when it will be available, they are not sure. At least that is what i understood because it was hard to understand the customer service officer's English. I wonder how long it will take for us to get it here.

Well I fail to understand their logic. You have the Chinese ROM.
Look at samfirmware.com then click on the tab labelled Firmwares & Files.
Next, look where it asks for the following "Type, OS, Model, Country" and fill these in then tap on send..... It will show you already have Jelly Bean available.

I agree w the OP - being able to save written notes on calendar daily pages seems obvious (and needed).

Anyone know of an app that supports this?
