New to androids

Just ordered my new HTC Desire but never used Android before .

Coming from the Blackberry Storm world I'm used to installing and using leaked OS releases to get the best performance from my phone, don't know if the Android world is the same but I'm looking for advice on where to go for great software and latest OS updates!
