CyanogenMod 4.0.4 doesn't have most Android sounds

I just installed CyanogenMod 4.0.4 and went to configure my alert sound for Gmail, and discovered that all of the default Android sounds are missing except for the "Look At Me" sound.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Is there somewhere I can download the sounds so I can add them to my system? Or maybe someone here can extract them from their system and post them in a zip file?

In the meantime, I'm using Rings Extended, and I installed one of the Windows XP sounds for my Gmail alert. At least now I can tell the difference between a new email and a new SMS without looking at my phone.

I think (no sure) but that version may have had most sounds removed to save on memory ....

You can create a set of directories on your SDcard to use for additional sounds, those are as follows:

/sdcard/alarms
/sdcard/notifications
/sdcard/ringtones
/sdcard/UI

then just place your sounds in the desired folder ...

If you have a copy of one of the earlier roms :::
then unzip it on you PC and search for the folder with the sounds .... (i dont recall off the top of my head where they are)

There use to be a zip file on xda of sounds .... under cyanogen's posts ... but the may not be available any longer .. do a search at xda-developer's forums

Thanks for the tip. I think I have an R29 image around, or maybe JesusFreke one. I'll try to open them up and grab the sounds. Thanks also for the paths to create to put them in. I was just going to add them to the system folders using ADB or the terminal app. Leaving them on the SD card makes things easier.
