will this work in airplane mode or do you need data? i was looking at the weather on specifically for a device i use with wifi and as a media player i am not connected to a service provider so this wouldnt work if it needs constant weather feed

Generally, it requires weather feed to animate current weather. But you can disable online mode and then, it will animate whatever you want. For example, you can switch to sunny, rainy or frosty/snowy manually.
