Boost is acquiring 2 new phones

It seems they are acquiring the Kyocera Hydro Edge and the Samsung Galaxy Prevail 2 according to the boost website, so who is somewhat excited?

The Hydro Edge is up on the site for $149 (pre-order) and the Prevail is up for $179 (available)... Neither are 4g so I don't see the excitement. Sorry. Well the fact the hydro is water proof is kinda cool. But that just means instead of dropping it in the toilet you will run over it with your car... I am waiting for an LTE phone that they will let you tether (legally).

Lmao isn't that the truth! Boost's 3G in the Chicago area is a joke. The 4g on the other hand Is great. It's no Verizon but it's much faster than AT&T or tmobile.

There are no words that pop up in my mind that can describe Boost's 3G speed. These two new phones mean jackshhhh since they are on 3G. Nice to see Jellybean 4.1 as the base.

What bothers me is, I honestly think there is a difference between Boost's signal foot print and Sprint's signal foot print. Places where my Sprint phone use to get a good signal my Boost either does not get or gets a very weak signal and that was with roaming turned off... I really wonder if they can set a priority, where those with Sprint get priority bandwidth and those with Boost/Virgin/whoever get what is left over???

Yea true I found that true when I went out of town where sprint says they have coverage where I was going and on boost there wasn't really much coverage

True but when i was on Sprint i never roamed and never found a location that my phone did not work. I always had it set for Sprint Network only. So at least in my case roaming isn't part of the observation.

I did notice today Cricket does allow roaming at an extra cost and they use Sprint (they are not part of Sprint) but maybe they will set the future standard for pre-paid phone providers. They also have the S4...

Back in May I traveled with a couple friends from Chicago to Cincinnati and back. One had Sprint, and neither of us were driving so we were messing with our phones a lot. There were some areas where he had service but I didn't. However surprisingly there was a couple areas where I had service, and he didn't (around Dayton, OH) so who knows. Boost uses Sprint towers, but apparently not all of them. And whatever LG he had must have worse reception than my phone, which was the Samsung Transform Ultra at the time.

As far as roaming, my Boost Blackberry 8530 had roaming options.. but it just said Sprint or Automatic I believe, and didn't really make a difference which I picked.

It makes a a lot of sense. AT&T wants to expand there prepaid market to compete with Sprint/Boost/VM and T-Mobile...At some point they will slowly transition Cricket to GSM, but they could leave it CDMA and everything would be fine.

Wow sooner or later all prepaids will be owned by big cell phone companies because they struggle to survive on their own
