But honestly I don't really think I'll be getting one anyway. My one requirement was a 1080P screen and 720P won't cut it after using the S4, One, and Next Nexus 7.

The nexus devices are priced that way on the play store, but the gpe have all been higher. Just like their out of contract prices

It looks like it'll be a nice phone for a lot of people, but I wouldn't waste an upgrade on it. This will probably be released around the same time as the LG g2 on Verizon, and I would be hard pressed to find a reason to pick the moto at the same price point. What I'm really hoping for is a high end device from them to be available for the holiday season.

keep in mind the super phone market is over saturated right now. The only problem is while the Moto X is no super phone it is a very solid mid range phone. Unfortunately I think motorola/google might have screwed themselves by pricing it at $200 on contract, which is the exact same price the S4 and HTC one go for. The Moto X should have been $100-$150 on contract $350-$450 max off contract to be competitive.

While the avg consumer might be persuaded that a 720p screen, dual core (with some fancy mumbo jumbo x8 speak tossed in) and a cool back material are great, its going to be a hard sell when another phone beats it on every single spec for the same money.

Here's the thing though, the average consumer doesn't know or care about the screen, processors, RAM, storage and/or slots etc. They care about how it looks.

I have many friends and family that have Android and iPhones and they would be hard pressed to tell you why they got them or what they can do for them. NONE of my Android friends had ever changed a launcher, dialer, removed a default widget or even installed a weather app until they saw my phone. Then, they all pretty much installed the same stuff I have/had at the time. Had I never shown them my phone they would be running out of the box whatevers to this day.

One friend had Android, went to iPhone and may go back to Android. Why? Because she is due for an upgrade so is getting a new phone. She honestly doesn't know or care that they are different or why. She may get an S4 because it has a bigger screen. That's it, her only reason. Upgrade eligible and a bigger screen.

Most of my family have iPhones. They make calls, send texts and use FB. None of them (save my brother) use even a calendar on it because that's too complicated. Honestly.

So this phone will sell and it will sell like hotcakes. It's a great looking phone, seems very comfy to hold and it comes in colors. People expect to pay either $200., $50 or nothing for a new phone (give or take, that is the average breakdown w/contract), the $200 people will be all over the Moto X and it will meet every expectation they have, because they have none.

I was actually going to get this, was all set to until the off contract price was announced. I wasn't sure what my cut-off was but know it's well below $600. I won't sign a new contract and lose my unlimited data and I won't be paying that much for this (or any, really) new phone. Too bad about the price because I really do like this phone and would have gotten one.

I have a friend with a Droid 4 who never added an app. He did not know Play Store existed and was quite surprised when I showed it to him.

After seeing the thickness of my Bionic he is no longer hung up on having a physical keyboard.

I would guess that when he sees Moto X he will be interested.

yea plus after a month or two it will probably be down to $100ish on contract which will have larger appeal, and might even grab some of the more techi people out there to buy in (if the experience/gaming capability is as strong as people are saying) vs the supper phones.

Either way im in the same boat... I like the phone, but cant pay 550-600 for an off contract phone (which is what I need). My cutoff is around $400 so heres to hoping the google play edition is cheaper!

I was planning on selling my Maxx HD and using that money on the X, but with the phone costing $550 for me, no thanks. I love the battery life my Maxx HD gives me. I can get two days of use from one charge.

People fuss way too much about bloatware. I don't put the icons on my main desktop. I never even know they're there.

I'm undecided. Maybe I'll have to see the Moto X in person. Will either be that or Razr Maxx HD.

Off contract price between the two may be a big differentiating factor for me. The Razr battery life sure is enticing though.

I might get this phone... but my confidence in whether or not I get this phone has dropped significantly, mainly on the basis of price; I was really excited to potentially have this phone at a budget-fitting (to me, that is) off-contract price.

However, since it seems the price of this phone is trending towards the upper $500 range, I may need to wait.

One bright side is - I am on the ATT carrier network, and have been since it was originally Pacific Bell -> Cingular -> ATT. So, needless to say, I'm likely to stay on the ATT network.

IIRC, I got my Atrix4G at about $98 or something on-contract sometime in late June, early July. That's 6months after it received high remarks at CES2011, and released sometime in February/March.

That phone was also originally available on-contract for $200 (ATT).
See what happened? about 4months later, the phone quickly dropped nearly 50%. Of course, that's attributed to massive phone releases immediately after.

Anyway - I'll admit:
A. I don't like the off-contract possibilities
B. $200 on-contract seems "normal/standard" with a new line of phones being introduced.
C. the wait for the price to drop (on-contract wise) will give me time to assess other phones to come (ie. LG G2, Nexus 5). Of course, likely LG G2 off-contract price is not expected to be any different (mid 500 to 600 range, I'd guess).

so - even though lots of time has already passed, I'll continue to wait and see what's in store.

I really like what I've read about this phone Except for the camera. I've read several reviews which have given less than stellar(bordering on bad) comments about the camera's picture quality. Is there a chance that it can be improved somehow via software updates or something??

Sadly, the camera seems to be the weakest part of the phone. I guess if the decent camera isn't priority then this still may be an option. Personally, I really like the design but a bad camera, high price and lack of MotoMaker access has turned me away. I am now focusing on the Nexus 4 replacement. My biggest hopes for the Nexus 4 II or Nexus 5 is great camera, great battery life and Key Lime Pie. Hopefully, we will have all the info by November or so.

I stopped into my local ATT store to look at the phone. I liked what I saw (and felt), but this phone isn't exactly flying off the shelves. The sales guy said only 3 had been sold and 1 was brought back and swapped for an HTC one.

Is that any surprise? I mean, there is virtually a marketing and advertising blackout on this device! It was reported that Motorola is spending what? $500 million to market it? I don't watch a lot of TV, but I have yet to see or even hear of the first commercial for the X.

Googarola had better get hot on advertising this phone so people know that it's there... otherwise they will be steered to the iPhone or DROID line by reps with quotas to meet.

Sometimes the best phone in the store isn't the most heavily marketed phone in the store.

To me the maxx is Motos flagship phone. Also they didn't need to come out with 4 phones that are basically all the same (maxx, ultra, moto-x and mini). What they should have done was have the maxx be the phone that would go to all the providers and then offer the mini for people that like smaller phones.
