apps to replace navigator and local?

Google didn't cancel Navigation...

For the umpteenth time.. Navigation is built in to the latest build of Google Maps. Basically your Navigation icon will disappear, but you still have it. If you open up Maps, and put in a destination, then tap get directions, it will give you route choices. Select one of them, and it will allow you to Navigate. There you have it, your Navigation app is alive and well :)

As for Local, I'm not too sure about that one.

EDIT: After doing a simple Google search... Local is also included in the latest version of Google Maps. You lost neither of them.. Still trying to figure out why this is posted in the Motion 4G section though :p

Agreed not really a Motion question.
That said, there are a lot of people who are unhappy with the latest update to Maps. As said above the features you are asking about are still there, just not in the same place. If you're really dissatisfied with the new version you can go into your app manager, find Maps and select "Uninstall updates" to return to the previous version. After that go to Maps in the Play market and make sure the "Auto Update" selection is unchecked so it doesn't re-update on its own.

I think I may have read (and don't quote me on this) that removing updates actually doesn't work, doesn't replace the Nav icon... I think you have to actually uninstall Maps, and either side load an older version, or find an installable for an older version somewhere (I'm sure they're available, plenty of people are upset with change)

I've seen reviews on Play where people stated they went back and it did restore the nav icon, although that may not be the case for every device or Android version. I can't say first-hand since I saw the bad reviews and never did the update.

I tried to uninstall the update and could not get that to work on my rezound, google interrupted the uninstall with a request to install their system update app and the maps was completely uninstalled. All I can do is put the new version on which includes everything. This is not as convenient. Is there any place in the internet go get a side copy of the older version of the app?

Also, since this happened I have been looking for a permanent replacement. I have found two I really like: Waze and Navigator both from the play store.

I really like Waze and I'll probably make this my main app for maps and nav. I see that Google just bought the company so this may get killed by them just like other things.

Hope this helps someone else.
