Automatic Tracking

Looking for an App which will automatically notify and gps the TABLET location when tablet is connected via WiFi... Nearly all trackers require you to SMS to activate which is no good for most tablets... Activating your tracker means nothing if your Tablet is not connected to Internet or phone system.

How do you propose to tell the tab to send its location to you if you can't send it an SMS? You figure that one out and someone will write an app to do it. (Remember, a wifi device has no "address" you can send a message to.)

Actually, you could rig something up with tasker and k9 email to do just that. You can have it activate GPS (or do any number of other things - tasker is complex) upon receipt of an email with a specified subject or sender email.

From where will you be tracking from? Anti-theft apps can use a PC interface to track a device whenever it get connected to internet.

Actually XYRO is close.... I would be fine having my TAB sending an email with gps to myself everytime I connect to a wifi site. This would at least give me a location if someone grabs the tab. Of course it would be nice to have an activation t not only send via wifi location but also front camera photo... not as good as sms but at least something. thanks for replys.

You might want to look into some of the dedicated security apps (prey, cerberus, etc) to see if any of them suit your needs.

With tasker you can take a picture with the front facing camera, and you can compose emails, but you can't attach it to an email.

What we're actually discussing here is what you can do if the tablet is lost or stolen. How can you contact the tablet to tell it to turn on GPS and report back it's location to you?

On phones you typically do that using SMS, texting a specific phrase to the device which a security app recognises. Then said app enables wifi + GPS and starts reporting back it's location. On tablets that isn't possible.
