Root [International] ART vs Dalvik

Wow, coincidence. Yesterday I also decided to revert to dalvik so I could use xposed.

However, upon reboot and app update I found that /system was read only and I couldn't install xposed; also I lost root and AFWall+ no longer worked (that's how I realized I'd lost root).

As I was on my way out to meet friends, I didn't have time to fault-find, so I restored my nandroid and I'm back on ART.

I think I'll have another go today.

funky, I was thinking... if gravitybox has so much customization, we might as well flash pure Omni with minimum customization - particularly as the dev of gravitybox says it is best to use with AOSP roms with no customization because of conflicts between rom customizations and the module's customizations.

I might do a clean Omni flash as I tried Slimkat yesterday and all the icons were too small - including the clock etc in the notification bar. I gave up in the end trying to fix it and went back to Temasek.

Aye slims default DPI is 260 or something lol. S3 is 320 default (i like 380 though).
Gravity box doesnt work on Omni!! That was the nail in the coffin for my flirt with dalvik lol :banghead::banghead:
Total letdown man.
Youre totally right though, i think were all gona end up running mega stable bare roms and using a framework like xposed to add the customisations we like.
Id rather it be a rom like Omni than cyano$en lol

I've just flashed Omni, and I have Gravity Box working... for what I want. I just checked, though, and it doesn't do what YOU want - turning off button backlights. :(

However, I just discovered a brilliant setting in gravity box (GB). I can double tap on my back button and it switches to my last open app. It makes toggling between two devices really easy and quick. :)

So my flirting has begun.

EDIT: I seem to recall when I entered the menu in the module for the settings a toast message popped up saying that you need to disable relevant default settings in the rom (can't remember which menu it mentioned because the message disappeared to quickly).

Your s3? Thats really weird man. The benchmark apps place ART way ahead but thats just apps, for me it cures the microlags, those wee stutters or shudders you sometimes get. Where i really noticed a huge difference was scrolling in the AF app, its like night and day. Ive tried tweaks and performance mods and been honest that they were maybe a placebo effect but for me, with ART the difference is really noticable. Maybe i just ruined my cpu in the early days by overclocking and art is just fixing what i broke lol. Idk :D

Yeah it's weird everything I read about means it should be better but I found it caused a few little lags and opening of apps was no different and sometimes felt longer.

I'll definitely try it again. Might give it a shot after I've done a clean Wipe and fresh install of a rom :thumb:

Not a true reflection of battery life with ART as I just left the phone alon for a couple of days and used my trusty SGS; but still had it playing music in the car for a couple of hours; bit of G+ and facebook. Only a couple of short calls though.

Using the Wolfson Kernel.

Same here but V21 Temesak with Wolfson, I have to agree Yatezy I find Dalvik as quick but smoother for me over ART. I was total wipe to V18 Temesak from Carbon then dirty up to V21.

Temesak V22 looks good but sitting on the fence at the moment as I find the V21 /wolfson set up flawless for me at the moment and if it aint broke don't fix it as they say!

LOL I've gone back to ART.

I was on dalvik for the customization with xposed, but it was never as smooth.

I am so glad I'm back on ART. Temasek's rom has a lot of customizations (including being able to turn off the capacitive button backlights, funky ;)) and is flawlessly smooth. This is the best performance I've ever experienced. I'm on v26 with Boeffla kernel which also gives me the useful feature of a five second window in which a touch on the screen will turn it back on).

When it came down to it UI fluidity was more important to me than the extra customization. I think it's more likely that the rom devs will add more features before the xposed dev makes his framework compatible with ART.

The one feature I miss from gravity box is turning on the torch by long pressing the home button when on the lockscreen.

I'm going to stay on ART from now on, I believe.
