I have not had any problems with my Nexus 5 speaker since I've received it. But, there is one thing I think they could do better. Instead of releasing a revision with bigger holes, which they should have done in the first place, they should have put a front facing speaker on the Nexus 5. The one thing I noticed about the phone when I unboxed it was the enlarged bottom bezel. It almost makes the phone look upside, down. Instead of having the notification light there, they should have put it on the top or even integrated it with the speaker grill, and then moved the speaker from the bottom to the front. There is plenty of room and it would make the bezel look more like it has a purpose for being that big. It would also solve various problem.
1) Low volume, it wouldn't be significant but it would help. Also there is opportunity for a larger grill.
2) Muffling the speaker when playing games. When the phone is in landscape my index finger tends to cover the grill which pretty much depletes all sound from the N5.
3) Fill the unused portion of the bottom bezel. The only design flaw I see. (And giving white N5 users plastics bumpers instead of the smooth ones)
And they'd be able to use that as another selling point. Because their camera was amazing at launch, right? >__>
