Virgin Galaxy LTE for $80 at RS

Just noticed that Radio Shack has Virgin's Galaxy Victory 4G LTE on sale for $80 until the end of January, 2014.
I have used the Evo V for the past couple of years and am considering making the move to the Victory. But I recently rooted and have been playing around with ROMS on the Evo and am not sure if the Victory would be a worthwhile upgrade. Any thoughts, comparisons, suggestions?

The Victory is a nice phone. It's a bit more peppy than the Evo but has a smaller screen. The reason I went from the Evo to the Victory was for the 4g Lte which is quite nice. It can be rooted but currently the only stable usable rom is Conquest which is stocked which is debloated and themed to look like AOSP. With Conquest the phone is overclockable to 1.8ghz so it makes it a bit snappier.

That's definitely a good deal. If you root it and use custom kernel it's a very snappy phone but I did have some screen quality issues with mine after 8 months so I upgraded to the HTC desire. The screen is small and the phone is thick. Also internal memory gets filled up extremely fast.

I've still got mine, it's nearly a year old now (got it march last year when it came out). I use a HTC One now, which is in a class of its own, but the Victory still sees action as my mp3 player and Conquest 9.4.

Thanks for all the replies. It is mighty tempting to pick up this phone for less than $100. Now that I am a little more comfortable with rooting, I would plan on rooting the Victory to get rid of bloatware and make it a little peppier. Anyone know if rooting will help address the internal memory space issues?

Are there many ROMs for the Victory? I would be coming from the Evo V which has lots, but sadly development seems to be waining.

There are a few. Victorious, Conquest, and a partially working CM10.

For 80 bucks almost cant go wrong, don't think I would have paid $150-200 or whatever they sold for originally though.
Nice phone overall, the usual bloatware included. Rooted fairly easily.
I would have preferred a Evo 3D myself for the tethering without rooting possibility.
The one big downside for Victory to me is only one Tether app will work and it's a bit flaky compared to PdaNet+.

I look back at what I paid for my Intercept, Triumph and the 125 I paid for my Victory... yeah $80 is a good deal.

I think I paid that much for used Intercept for the kid. Boy do the Victorys put those to shame.

I picked up 2 more Victorys over the weekend for the rest of the family. Debloated and rooted these are pretty good phones.

There have been comments around the net about too thick, too small screen, etc... I like it, fits in pocket just fine, battery has been lasting plenty long for me, esp after getting rid of bloat.

It's a good phone for the price, to be completely honest. Also, don't forget, the other phones you're comparing to are several years older.

But will the Victory shortly also feel old? With doubtful Virgin updates and little dev activity for ROMS, is the Victory a better option than continuing to tweak the Evo V?

It's a great device even without the developer support

If you are fine with a stock rom and 1 good running custom rom it's a great phone and should be for a while.

If you are a flash addict and like to try different roms or constantly tweak things it's probably not a good choice.

If you are looking for a current VM phone with alot of activity you'll have to look at the S3

I bought this phone Saturday. Replacing a HTC One V. At work, where we are capable of 4G, the phone is 10 times faster at pulling up Weatherbug's radar. So I am a very happy camper.

Hope you guys don't mind but I'm probably about to start posting questions because I rely on these forums to figure things out.

@ kwknott I wish I could get an S3 (great combination of power, features, dev support, and longevity), but the price is out of my league. I keep a constant eye for crazy reductions (and spare change lying around), but it is always at least $300. That is why I was looking at the Victory for $80. Might bite the bullet and play with it for a bit to see if I want to keep it. I might fall in love with the LTE, but the Spring maps for my home in suburban DC aren't great. So if stuck on mainly 3G, I would consider keeping my money and continuing to tweak the Evo as long as I can. That is why I came to this forum to see if I was an idiot for either passing up on the Victory, or moving away from the Evo. I have to say, ROMs have breathed fresh air into my Evo, though some crucial parts of the screen seem to be less sensitive to touch (down by the buttons). So when I want to touch inside a blank message area, the phone doesn't recognize it or thinks I am hitting back button. So I have to turn the phone to landscape to start messages. A little frustrating, but doable.
