So anyone with a Nexus 5 considering picking up the HTC One or the Galaxy 5? I love my Nexus. But, it is my second Nexus and I'm itching for something different. I figure the Galaxy 5 will probably wind up having the camera and battery combo I would prefer. Plus it does have an IR blaster. HTC One looks sharp and I am not opposed to Sense, but I'm not sold on their camera. Anyone else thinking about switching?

Love my N5 :D. Like every phone, its got its weaknesses, but I'm not iching for anything different. I'm eligible for an upgrade since I bought the N5 off contract.

If I got the S5, the touchwiz bloat and "features" would drive me crazy. If I got the m8, HTC's lack of proper kernel source would quickly make me miss the open nature of nexus. For both devices, I'd end up rooting and flashing an AOSP ROM anyway, so why not stick with one that works like it should

If I HAD to get one, it would be the M8 :)

I'm one of those diehard stock Android people and almost came within a phone call of ordering myself an M8.

Honestly I would have pulled the trigger if it wasn't for that sorry excuse that HTC passes of as a camera. To shoot to the chase its pretty bad. Stills are OK and passable for social media junkies, but if you really need your phone to take a good pic the M8 is not to be looked at. Even worse is the Video camera and the lack of OIS, which is just a joke in 2014. They should have made it a point to get a good shooter on board with the M8

As for the S5, there's no way on earth I could get used to touchwiz...Sense I could get used to and actually like, but touchwiz is not to my liking.

Looks like I'm rocking my N5 for the time being.

Did the camera get worse from the m7?

I had the m7 and no issue with the camera.. I mean in the end its a phone so the camera isn't/shouldn't be the main concern.. I didn't notice much difference in N5/M7 camera to be honest.

Agree on touch wiz ... I really liked sense though. If HTC Gives me blinkfeed I'll happily stick with my N5 until my contract expires.

There's no optical image stabilization on the M8, so right there is a problem with video capture and stills to a certain extant. The N5 takes much better video, and for stills I would also take the N5. Yes the M8 does some awesome things with filters and all that, but my nod is towards the nexus 5.

OIS is cool and all, but not including it isn't enough to prevent me from getting a device.

Got along just fine without it before the n5 ;)

Lol...I also got along fine without
Air-conditioned seats in my car!

IMO its always better to improve then stay stagnant and the same. HTC did just that with the shooter on the M8! Can I live with it, sure I can its not life and death, but if I'm spending upwards of $700 for a new phone off contract or even $200 on a contract for 2 years, I want a much better improved product. Just my take.

I'll freely admit I'm both an early adopter _and_ smartphone addict :D

Having had last year's HTC One that satisfied my desire to own one. It's a fine phone and the new M8 is bound to be better. That said, I'm just not one who likes Sense.

Currently I remain very happy with my Nexus 5, a phone that's exceeded my expectations and preferences in every area. That's quite an accomplishment as I'm a very heavy user that really puts a smartphone through it's paces.

This N5 is very fast, stable and reliable, it's the ideal phone for my highly mobile business travel.

One thing about the nexus that could be better is battery.

I mean its acceptable but would certainly be the first thing I'd want improved.

I've extended battery life to two days. Installed Qualcomm's BatteryGuru App which is excellent, then I added a Limefuel Battery Case.

It's made from the same matte black grippy material as the Nexus back and fits perfectly. Of high quality similar to a Mophie, it's ideal.

Neither the s5 or m8 could tempt me away from the Nexus. The Asus Padfone X got me tempted, but then here we are almost 3 months since it was unveiled at ces and it still isn't available yet. I'm tired of waiting. Besides, I've got 2 words for the s5 and m8: Locked bootloader. Some carriers well let you unlock the m8 bootloader, but not all.

Guess the boot loader isn't an issue becauce I don't Root/ROM.

Battery life for me on my nexus has been worse then my HTC One (m7) hoping maybe an OTA will help.

Supposedly the next version of Android should be a lot better on battery consumption, been hearing this for plenty of years already with every push out of Android. The battery life on the nexus is more unreliable then I'd say bad, sometimes its pretty decent, sometimes its god awful ....Stock should be amazing IMO

Honestly battery life would be the first thing anybody would want improved for in a phone .

With that said, I've had a full 8h plus SCREEN ON time with the N5

FWIW, I average two days on one cycle on my N5.
