Root [Virgin Mobile] Constant Drops - Internet and Calls

Hello,

Ever since updating to 4.3 (via the stock rom - my phone is rooted), I have had major connection issues. My internet constantly drops (at least 3-4 times per 10 minute period) and I get disconnected from calls (at least 1-2 times per 10 minutes).

What phone functions affect these (Radio, PRL, Profile, etc.) and what should my versions be (and how do I check).

Is there anything I can try to resolve this?

It may be dropping 4G for 3G, then trying to switch back so often that it seems to loosing both. Try 3G "only" for a while and see if it seems stable by itself.

Phone shouldn't take hard hand-offs and dropping phone calls. eHRPD is an overlay between EVDO and LTE to make handoffs from 3G to 4G or from 4G to 3G seamless without hard handoffs.

OP are you mobile when you phone calls drop? If so, this could be your phone handing off from 1x RTT 1900 PCS to 1x 800 SMR for voice calls or vise versa. What happens if you are on 1x 800 your phone will hold on to the signal as far as it can and then just drop off without handing back over to 1900 PCS.

You could try to do a PRL update but I seriously doubt this will help, VM PRL 33030 supports Network Vision and also Band 10 (1x 800) 1900 PCS has priority over 800 but if you are on the edge of 1900 and your phone is handing off to 800 then this explains the drop calls. This is if there are 800 sites live in your area...

I am having the same problem and am in an area that only gets 3g. Though my phone does get 4G LTE in cities.

i to was getting curious messing around with msl reader to try to bye pass my data cap to trick the network thinking there was no data. long story short.i fu8cked up.

i messed up my 4g data and and no phone calls. some crap bout making zact my main subscriber. even though im on virgin mobile
i flashed the apn fix and walah. started river dancing n shit. got my 4g data and phone calls back.got every thing back to normal.this is good if your messing with network setting as a safegaurd, also show the op some love

There is not a way to trick the network to give you truly unlimited data. All the QoS and throttling is done network side and has nothing to do with your phone/Android, and starting 6/1 5% of heavy data users will be limited to a small amount of bandwidth during congested hours or when sites become overburdened.

Example: If a hand-full of users are using 60% of a sites data capacity whether its 3G EV-DO or LTE they will be throttled freeing up 60% of the bandwidth to be used by other users that are connecting to that particular site. So heavy data users could be throttled everyday even though you haven't reached your month data allotment.
