Help KIT KAT UPDATE - "Default" help needed

My Galaxy Note 3 just updated to KIT KAT. Previously, although my Default text messaging was SMS Pro, I was able to use the stock Samsung text by choice when I wanted to send large attachments. Now after update it's one or the other and the phone locks the non-default. WTF?

How do I work around this?

I have thus far avoided upgrading but I checked my wife's phone. You still get to the task manager the same way.

Press and hold the center button and the icon on the bottom left is the task manager.

I wonder what would happen if you went in to it, then up at the top, Clear defaults, then don't set a default next time you use one of the apps.

Yeah that didn't work. I then downloaded HANDCENT as my 2nd text program and it won't send texts either. Samsung does not want me to have 2 text programs. WTF?
