Coming from iPhone 5s to LG G3

I've been a long time iPhone user, but I'm considering making the switch. I tried the Samsung S5 a few months back but it wasn't for me. After reading all the reviews about the LG G3, I'm thinking this will finally meet all of my needs. Here's a list of the things that's important to me.
1. Larger screen
2. Portable battery
3. Ability to add more storage
4. Streaming video like Watch ESPN.
5. Social Apps

I've never liked how Apple won't allow you to add more storage or for you to have access to your battery, so I'm thinking it's time to make the switch. If any of you have came from an iPhone to the LG G3, please give me your opinions on making the switch.

hello! ive had my g3 for almost 2 weeks and i came from an iPhone 5. I've always been a long time phone user. only android phone i had was the captivate and did not like it even rooted and installed custom ROMs. i LOVE my g3. do i miss certain things from my phone 5? YES. do i regret switching? NO.

the moment i started playing wit the g3 and looked at my iPhone 5, i was like wow... i didn't realize how small the iPhone 5 screen was lol. the screen is amazing, i haven't really experienced any lag that ppl tend to bring up, occasional lags but thats when i had a bunch of apps running. the only issue I'm having is i am having trouble syncing my iTunes music from my macbook to my g3. I've tried everything but i have no go. maybe its just me lol. some apps aren't compatible with the g3 yet until the dev updates the app. i had to side load espn score center.

i was holding out for the note 4 but couldn't resist after reading all these great reviews on the g3. i was also waiting to see how the iPhone 6 would be but i wanted a change.

everyone will have their pros and cons with the device and what they missed with their previous device. try and see how u like it. u have 14 days to return it if your not satisfied with it. hope my info helped! if you have any other questions feel free to ask

i would check to see if the apps you use on ur iPhone is available in the play store. I'm still adjusting to the notification system on android. i was used to the notifications i would get on the lock screen and it isn't the same on android. there is an app that is available but its not to my liking so i look at all my notifications by swiping down and viewing it in the notification bar. those were my major concerns.

The major feature I love on the iPhone is the iPod for music. If I won't have any trouble getting my music over to the LG G3, then I can adjust to everything else.

i would check to see if the apps you use on ur iPhone is available in the play store. I'm still adjusting to the notification system on android. i was used to the notifications i would get on the lock screen and it isn't the same on android. there is an app that is available but its not to my liking so i look at all my notifications by swiping down and viewing it in the notification bar. those were my major concerns.

I use DoubleTwist. It automatically syncs my Itunes with my android phone. Very easy. The only issue I hear from Iphone users is getting off Facetime if that's something they use a lot. There are a lot of video chat options for Android, but you would have to get all your Apple friends to switch as well.

If you're legitimately open to trying a new OS as your daily driver, you'll be quite happy with the G3. HOWEVER, I want to make two points you should consider:

1.) You may want to actually try the HTC One M8 instead. Their take on Android is probably the closest thing to iOS you'll find in the market. The phone is buttery smooth with a fluidity I haven't seen reproduced anywhere else. That's not to suggest other Android phones are lagfests in comparison, just that I've been pushing the M8 for months now and it has yet to miss a beat. Also, the HTC sync app for your computer does a fantastic job of working with iTunes. It transferred everything for me, including my playlists.

2.) This one might ruffle a few feathers here, so my apologies in advance I'm not trying to start a flame war. You should probably wait a month or so. Apple is releasing a new iPhone (as every tech blog has been screaming). It's probably going to be a larger screen. I personally do believe they're going to release both a 4.7 and a 5.5 but at the very least I think the 4.7 is a lock. iOS 8 is *very* Android-like. So essentially Apple is releasing a version of the phone you've been saying you want, and you're already comfortable in the ecosystem. (I know you mentioned removable battery and extra storage but my guess is these won't really be deal-breakers for you.)

This is all just my two cents. I just can't imagine a long-time Apple user suddenly jumping ship a month before they release new hardware.

I switched from the 5s to the G3, it has been the best choice I've made phone wise in a while. I love my G3. I was looking for the same things you are, and the G3 surpassed my expectations. The screen is really pretty great as well.

Also, having all notifications lumped into one sound effect is pretty lame as well. iOS notifications are efficient in the sense that you don't have to go pulling it out of your pocket for every damn sound that emanates from it.

If you like the ability to override an app's access to your GPS, contact list, photos, bluetooth, microphone, and so on, say goodbye to that too. Android doesn't give you anything remotely resembling privacy overrides. When you install an Android app, you either agree to give up all access to everything, or you don't get to install it. That pretty much blows.

Hmm custom ringtones and text sounds for specific contacts seems to work just fine on my Android device. Maybe checking things out yourself instead of just repeating things you have heard would be a good thing.

Android has provided the ability to have a custom ringtone for individual contacts for as long as I can recall. You can easily set them up using the stock Contacts app or third party ones like Zedge.
Not sure what a VIP list is (never used iOS), but Android gives you a list for Favorites, if that's similar (and LG has it with its OS as well).
The G3 also has a notification LED and third party apps like Handcent will turn on the screen for a notification (and that's just scratching the surface for how notifications can be modified).

That's not entirely true. Each app requires permissions, same as with iOS. However, Google does a great/poor job of explaining them (unlike Apple, who doesn't tell you anything). Yes, they tell you all the permissions, and at the same time giving you a vague, ambiguous reasoning leaving it up to the end user to guess why an app needs certain permissions.
If you ever have questions as to why an app requires X permission, shoot the developer an email if you're concerned.

The only thing the iPhone has is the chipset that is still better than any current chip in an Android device. Besides that for all devices, the G3 is IMO a far better option than the iPhone. Android in general is better, if you do not like the iTunes leash.

Both platforms give full disclosure of what's accessed at the time of installation. Only iOS gives you the ability to disallow that access AFTER the installation without root/jailbreak. Of course you can root, but no one's talking about voiding warranties in order to get functionality that should have always been there.

As us droid lads are easy going we just prefer to talk facts not propaganda...

My HTC desire 4 yrs ago had custom ringtones for select contacts.. You could also link Facebook notifications to contacts, how's that for customization . You could set different coloured LED blinks for different notifications (how's the LED flasher working out on iPhone), with regards to custom vibrate patterns I've been able to do that for ages, just never bothered...

So...

Are we all happy that the notification system on android is fine and dandy..
