I predict that the qHD screen on the Note 4 will end up being an issue rather than a feature. Samsung has outdone themselves with the high res screen. The Note 4 will suffer from performance and battery life issues and it will be traced back to the screen. The same phone with Samsung"s best 1080p Super AMOLED screen would be near perfection.

Though I agree 100% that a great 1080P display would be better for battery life and performance, tests have already shown that the N4 display is a new more efficient tech that is actually 17% more efficient than the N3 (not G3) display. That is impressive and battery life tests so far confirm this.

LG went the cheap route though and used older tech with Qhd on the G3 and has resulted in a hotter running, weak contrasted, battery draining device- in spite of the "Pixie Dust" crowd reports ;)

The N4 display is twice as efficient as the G3 display. Based on the battery life weight of a display on a device, this fits the 1.5/2.0 hours better battery life.

The N3 battery lasts 1.5/2.0 hours longer than the G3 for screen on time and the Note 4 is reported to last the same to slightly better than the N3. The N4's GPU has to work more, so the 17% efficiency over the N3 is offset.

Still, YES on a 1080p display, since would result in at least 1.5 more hours of battery life. Based on the new lower power tech of the OLED design on the N4 (per Displaymate), 1.5 is probably conservative.

Added: Anecdotal perspective- I compared the G3 and N4 at Best Buy. The G3 display feels very warm to hot (depending on load), but the N4 is barely warm. Also, comparing the displays side by side truly shows how weak IMO the G3 display really is. G3 fans would be best served to NOT compare the displays, since ignorance is bliss :)

Unlike the G3, no halos around text and no gosh awful contrast or viewing angle issues either.

I hope you're right. When I get tired of this new iPhone 6 Plus (that hasn't been delivered yet) my next victim will likely be a Note 4 or Nexus 6. Or maybe LG will drop a G4 in the spring that has 'em all beat.

Still not sure I am getting the N4, since my S4 is fine and have root and Foxfi working. I need third party apps to be able to write to the sd card, since a lot of my apps need this.

The card writes are the number one issue for me and a deal breaker if can not have the function. I still will only believe L brings the function back when I see it. Android documentation of hating sd cards is too well documented.

Were it not for Samsung championing sd cards in their products, card slots would probably be gone now for all areas except Asia.

I also have a LG G3 and all I can say is I will take the AMOLED and the saturated colors any day. Is it the 17th yet?

I had a couple of G2s last year. Definitely my favorite Android of 2013. That 1080 ISP LCD was all you need in a 5.2" screen. It was awesome. The phone was blistering fast and the battery lasted longer than anything else I'd used, including the 1520 with a 3400mah battery.

I prefer having the sd slot, so Nexus is not an option for me. Apparently the Note 4 is already rooted, so hoping the Verizon version will be able as well.

Just want root for card writes and freeze bloat. I could care less about modding with different roms.

How was it rooted? Towelroot work on 4.4.4?? EDIT - I see chainfire is the root process.

I need SD cards myself. They are my iPod replacement. I'm not quite sold on the Note 4 either. I'd like to hear more about the new Sony Xperia.

The Z3 is nice, but the navigation bar hogs .5", so the device for apps is really 4.7". Non rooted users so far do not see a way to get it in immersive mode like the G3, so you lose the space in everything except the home screen and video media.

The catch with rooting the Z3 though is it basically cripples the camera and Sony confirmed this.

If the Z3 had capacitive buttons (or nav bar hiding) and 32GB with Verizon, I would pick it over the Note 4 since easier one hand device, great 1080p display, great camera and external access sd slot. Battery life due to the big battery and 1080p display is the best of any current device. Two hours better than the Note 4, but of course the Note 4 can swap batteries.

Added:

Ain't it wild how every device has at least one glaring flaw? How hard to cover all the bases? The Z3 almost nails it, but poor navigation bar management kills it for me and rooting to fix it hurts the camera function. How hard to copy what the G3 does for using immersive mode to hide the nav bar? The Note 4 of course is probably cursed on Verizon with the usual weaker radio signal.

The Note 4 might have one other flaw: The dB output from the headphone jack is apparently very low compared to the other current devices. Makes no sense, so hope Phone Arena is wrong. Low output equals low gain, equals low overall quality.

The Z3 though IMO absolutely blows the iPhone 6 away and ditto for the Note 4 over the 6 Plus.

I agree which is why I canceled it. My main issue with the Note 3 is how it drops calls compared to other phones I have owned.

If the Note 4 has dropped call problems I will look at another brand beause at the end of the day it is a phone which is used for phone calls.

The Note 4 makes phone calls??? I better check my 1520, maybe it does too..

Couldn't agree with you guys more! The display on the G3 is just awful. Contrast, vividness, viewing angles, battery life... Just the worst.

I picked it up in July, knowing in the back of my mind the new Note was coming soon. Really kicking myself now! I gotta try and figure something out.
