Root Ota on DU 8.2

Hook

Ever since DU... ;-)
Okay, it's only a notification, but Google is trying to get me to download it. Is there a way to turn this off. I wanted to wait until after I made a trip to handle a family medical matter (leave on Thursday) just so I could count what I know is a reliable setup, but if this keeps up I'm just going to get annoyed enough to finally update. Mostly I didn't want to invest the time while I'm getting ready.

As long as the ROM checks google servers for updates, it'll get the OTA notification.

You can delete the update once its downloaded, but I forget where it gets downloaded to. Somewhere in the device /cache I believe.

To prevent it from downloading altogether you'll need to change your build.prop so that it reflects the current release (LRX21O)

That's what's strange. The ROM doesn't have the normal System Update option in Settings. I would have expected it was disabled. Guess I was wrong.

I got the notification also and noticed if you long press on the "later" part of the notification it brings up options to hide or block the notification.

I just received the ota notification for 5.0/L. I am running DU 8.2 and did not even expect to see it running a custom ROM. Is this OK to do?

You will lose root if you take this OTA. I've read root is possible already on 5.0 but no 5.0 ROMs yet that I know of.

I'd just wait for DU to have a 5.0 build.

Yup, stumbled on that too. Thanks. Happy with my black background DU 8.2. My life is complicated enough, right now. ;)

Thanks!

Link removed because thread it originally linked to was merged with this thread... ;)

Any system modifications will undoubtedly cause the OTA to fail. If your device was commpletly stock, rooted and with an unlocked bootloader only then the OTA would go through just fine... Although you world lose root and probably your custom recovery.

This is an excellent, understanding and thread to read on OTA scenarios - [INFO] Nexus 5 OTA Help-Desk | Google Nexus 5 | XDA Forums

Edit: Scary Alien also make an awesome OTA verifier app that will basically cross reference the OTA with your current setup and tell you whether it will fail or pass - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sa.ota.verifier

That link isn't working for me. I'm glad I saw this thread-I got the notification too but I am not in the mood to lose root right now so I'm going to wait for DU.

The thread I originally linked to was actually merged with this thread. Edited post so people won't keep clicking the link. :)
