Will LG Optimus F6 turn on without the battery while plugged in?

I'm trying to troubleshoot why my LG Optimus F6 won't turn on after not using it for a few months. I put the battery in to charge it up but it doesn't appear to be charging so either the battery has gone bad or the charging port (micro USB) is broken. So I want to know if the F6 should turn on without the battery in the phone while it's plugged in (of course). If it's supposed to turn on without the battery then it will confirm that the charging port is broken. If it won't turn on without the battery then maybe the battery has gone bad and the phone isn't detecting it because it's gone bad. Thanks in advance.

If you attempt to put the phone in emergency mode, And it does, it is a good chance the port is good. If it does enter emergency, just pull the battery and check it. To check the battery, lay the battery on a flat surface and see if its swollen. If its not swollen you can go to the metro store and they'll check your charger for free.

Thanks @viperdink. I get no response at all when I try to start it up. I think what you mean by emergency mode is to press the power button and the volume down key at the same time but that didn't do anything. The battery is not swollen. The phone was purchased 9 months ago so I don't expect the battery to have gone bad by now. It's a T-Mobile Optimus F6. Will T-Mobile check the charging port as well?

they sure will and since its less than a year old you should look into a . warranty
if not, get one for 49 bucks anyway while your there, if they want to0 much to do the warranty. (shipping).
Plus you get the first phone for parts or hit ebay to recoup you 49$ or what ever.

Thanks again @viperdink. My was a refurb so I think it only had a 90 day warranty. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Avant right now but I wanted to unlock the F6 to send to my wife's family overseas. If it turns out to be a bad micro USB port then I might buy the part from eBay or Amazon and try to fix it myself. I don't think I can file a claim for a replacement using the insurance coverage since the phone wasn't active on any of the lines on my account for several months.
