Combo Car Charger / Cradle?

After having my Hero for a week, I would love to have a cradle / car charger combo. I'm thinking something that plugs into the 12V socket...and the top of it was a base that I could just set my phone into and have it charge...all one piece! At the same time, it would be facing forward for easy navigating or even seeing the screen while talking on the Bluetooth.

Does anything like this exist? I've looked around, but don't see any such product!

Don't bother with cheap aftermarket ones...I bought one originally and 1) the holder didn't fit into my airvents to hold it in place 2) the connector was lose in the cigarette lighter and worked loose as you drive and 3) the connector to the phone wasn't an exact match for the hero, just a mini usb which fits but isn't perfect.

Save yourself a load of hassle and just buy the official HTC one

The "Ice" one?

It looks dreadfull, and even more generic than the suggestion by Baggieboy...

I got just the thing you have described at Car Phone Warehouse, its brill and good price. Its a cradle you put your phone in and squeeze the sides gently to clasp the phone and you can angle it excactly how you want it.

That's what i got.. see below....if its a genuine HTC one it'll be ok, but the aftermarket ones leave a lot to be desired

I've got an official HTC one and i cant see any way that it will clip into an air vent. There's a sticky pad and a suction mount for the holder but that's it - there wasnt any kind of clip in the box.

not in the winter...
Keep the phone cool too :p
Brodit has a custom charging cradle for the UK Hero. This is the ProClip (US based) link. Part # should be the same.

Vent mounts look so junky IMHO. Getting dash mounts from either Brodit, Panavise, Pro-Fit or Bracketron are usually much nicer, more OEM looking options. Usually the mounting locations make it easier to hide the cable runs too. Vent mounts tend to keep your cords hanging out in the open.

What would be really sharp is if they made the above but with the HTC adapter and an audio out cable so you didn't have to use the headphone jack at the top and could leave it all permanently attached so it was more of a true dock.

yeah, some cars make mount placement tough. I sell the ProClip(Brodit) stuff, and I had to go with a bracketron mount to get the holder up high enough that I wasn't looking almost in my lap at the phone. Car mfgs don't really take mounting electronics when they design these flowing center dashes. What I'd like to see is a cradle built into the dash and a simple, say 1/8" jack built in for power that you could just buy the tip for your appropriate device and mount away. Put the aux input there too and you don't have issues routing wires. One can dream. It could just be a simple spot with the AMPS mounting holes along with power & aux inputs.
