Hi

I've just purchased the Google Chromecast so I can watch the Presto streaming service and it works great! as it's compatible with Chromecast? but I'm having trouble installing the google cast extension on my phone and tablet so I can view the web via the google chrome web browser on my TV

I successfully installed it on my laptop just by going to the pull down menu on the google chrome browser clicking on more tools and extensions then adding the extension to chrome? my laptop is running windows 10?

But I cant do the same on my tablet and phone which are both android powered devices?

I've gone to install the google cast receiver but its saying its saying 'my device isn't compatible with this version'?

Do I need an updated android device in order to install the cast receiver? what's the deal?

Hi

Install the Google "chromecast" app on your phone
Swipe in from left
Select "cast screen/audio"
Select your chromecast

Now everything on your phone should be mirrored to your TV (including web browsers)

You cannot use a chromecast extension with the mobile browser.
But when I connect it to TV .. The screen becomes black and automatically disconnects .. Help pls ..

The tv screen becomes black? (or phone?).
What specific phone do you have? Are you on 4.4.2 or later?
Is the chromecast "set up"? This is a prerequisite to any casting. Usually you'd do it on your android chromecast app.
Does chromecast display the backdrop before you attempt to cast? (if not, then it's probably not set up).

btw...a/f has a forum for chromecast/googlecast

Are you able to use the Youtube app (or anything similar functioning app like Netflix) on your phone via your Chromecast? Also, is your Chromecast plugged directly into a HDMI port on your TV or is it plugged into something else (HDMI hub or a set top box) that's then plugged into your TV?
Another thing to check is your Chromecast's power -- if it's powered off of a USB port try using the power adapter that came with it. The adapter will supply more current than a USB port.

Since phone can use googlecast for other purposes like musixmatch,I'd venture to say phone and chromecast are set up correctly.

An unlikely scenario imo is you have a software problem:
  • Google services not up to date - easy to check... make sure you don't have an update waiting in play.
  • Problem with cm13/google cast compatibility... check with cm community...I'm sure they'd be all over that if it were a problem.

The Most likely scenario imo is hardware problem (phone not compatible with screen cast)
  • Many lower end 2014 devices like the Moto devices I mentioned cannot cast screen.
  • BTW I have an LG optimus Fuel LG L32C (similar to yours but an even lower end 2014 device) with KitKat. It can cast from apps (like youtube) but it can't screencast. There is not any option to screencast in the chromecast app "hamburger" menu (push the three horizontal lines in upper left hand corner that look sort of like a sandwich/burger).
  • I checked my Nexus 6 (modern device which can cast and has 6.0/1). It has two ways to cast screen:
    • 1 - from the hamburger menu of the chromecast app
    • 2 - from the operating system settings (display / cast screen).
  • Based on comparing my LG Fuel and the Nexus 6, I'd say the presence or absence of "cast screen" option in the chromecast app hamburger menu is an indicator of whether the app thinks your phone is capable of casting.
If you found a cast screen option in your os settings, but not in the chromecast app hamburger menu, I'd say that would tend to support the conclusion that your device is just not compatible with screen cast (like many other 2014 low end devices).
