Help Stock Photo Editor: Image Compression Settings

Task: Cropping a photo.

Issue: Stock Photo Editor saves blurry/compressed images.

Explanation:

When needing to quickly crop an image, one can view an image in GALLERY and choose the "pencil" (edit) icon in the bottom center of the image. You will be given two options;

PHOTOS (just once or always)
PHOTO EDITOR (just once or always)

If you choose the PHOTO EDITOR you can easily crop an image. However, when you save the newly cropped portion of the image your probably notice that it doesn't have the best detail/quality. I assumed that this was simply because the image is being blown up/expanded... but that's not the case.

I'd you choose PHOTOS as the editor and perform the same task, the newly saved cropped image will be very detailed. I also installed a few 3rd party photo editors and got very detailed results (some allow adjustment of Compression quality when saving).

QUESTION:

Why does the stock PHOTO EDITOR generate overly compressed images when Cropping them and saving? Can I access the image Compression options for the program? Is there another solution to get the stock Editor to save cropped images at 100% quality?

Why even have or use the stock Editor when you can choose PHOTOS and crop without losing derail? The stock Editor is a little more convenient to use, so I would see why it does such a poor job?

Any ideas or suggestions?

The Google Photos app is the stock editor on my Nexus 6P, and it works quite well for basic photo manipulations without compromising the quality.

In general, though, the stock editor bundled by the manufacturer is considered "good enough", but usually doesn't include any advanced quality settings or anything like that.

I have a ZMAX PRO running 6.0.1

When I choose the edit option by touching a photo and selecting the pencil/ edit icon at the bottom middle, I get a choice between " photo editor" and "photos". If I choose photo editor I get taken to the options shown in the other picture. Cropped photos from the " photo editor" save with much lower resolution than the original. If I choose to use "photos" as my editor it saves at full resolution. So, I guess I'll just use "Photos" as the default editor. It's just a shame because the simplistic interface of the Photo Editor is very nice. Just not sure why it saves at a lesser quality.

Yeah, looks like ZTE's photo editor just has crummy compression.

The good news is that Google Photos is a perfectly capable replacement. There are also a bunch of other image editors available on the Play Store, many of which could be set as your default if you find one you prefer over Photos.

Photos covers most of my needs, but Snapseed is also worth checking out.

Thanks for help everyone. I'll just set Google Photos as my default Editor.
