Root Wheeelllt... I give up

I've been trying to root ALLL day (since around noon)... First windows (7) wouldnt let me install the new drivers. Thanks to some help from a couple users I finally got them to install, but when I tried to use the master root app, step two says I need to make sure I followed all steps, wont continue. Tried the SDK method, but where it says to test by going to "/tools/" in android SDK i get lost... where is "tools"? I dont see it any where. And I can't type in the command prompt like they ask. Nothing happens. So after all that bullshit I figured I would try to install it on my gf's XP computer. Whaddya know the USB drivers wont install. Ive been trying to get someone to walk me through it all day, but every time I go to one of the eris root chats no one is online. So unless I happen to run accross one of you guys at walmart and happen to have my laptop shoved up my ass at the time I guess I'm S.O.L. This sucks because I was really looking forward to having all the benefits of rooting!

To get to the tools directory open my computer and browse to where you have the sdk copied (ie C:\adnroid-sdk-windows\) once in there you should see a folder called tools, the easiest way to get a command prompt there is to open the folder hold down the SHIFT key and right click, there should be an option to "Open Command Window Here" select that option and you're ready. Follow the directions here to finish the rooting process: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-eris/53963-guide-stock-1-5-latest-root-2-1-a.html if you want to just root the OTA 2.1 update only do step A and I, if you want to make a backup image you can follow step II. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions, I've just finished rooting my phone and restoring back to 1.5 and updating back to 2.1 to get a feel for things so I understand your frustration.

thanks! I didnt bring my computer to work today so I could actually get some work done instead of screaming at the device manager screen LOL so I'll prolly try when I get home tonight. Hope this works cause I'm ready for a faster eris!
