Video Applications Not Seeing Multiple Files in Folder

I have a new Android 8 tablet and video applications like VLC, MX Player, and Gallery are acting strangely. When I play a video and set it to loop, it never loops and I immediately return to the file system browser after the video plays once. In the applications that are configured to forward to the next audio MP3 or video MP4 in a folder, the applications refuse to see any next audio or video. Hitting the "next" or "previous" buttons exits the video application and takes you back to the file system browser.

Is this some kind of security issue in a later version of Android? How do you configure something like MX Player to play all audio or video files in a folder?

Just for clarity, are you running the app, e.g., VLC, and selecting files using it, or are you using a file manager?

No, I don't think so! :) I'm using 8.0.0 and do not have the issue you're having.

I use VLC, and did nothing special to make it work right.

So you're having the same problem regardless of which video player you're using?

I am using the file manager to select an arbitrary media file. I then select the player and play it. At the end of that audio/video the player stops and I am back at the file manager.

So far I have this problem with MX Player and VLC and another application named Gallery.
