Best Android laptop?

As of now, there is no Android laptop, but according to some Android sites some tablets that will run Android are in the works! I believe they're slated to come out the end of this year!

been thinking some more on the subject......on the whole idea of tablet vs laptop/netbook/notebook.....

for me personally, laptop is still a winner...on many levels....

I just hope there will be something worthy on the market soon...don't feel like shelling out $$$$ to Steve again :(

My friend got an Android Tablet today. He buys tons of tech stuff (for example, he has every version of Apple Newton ever made). I wouldn't buy one quite yet...His was around $215 shipped.

He said the touch screen sucked BADLY. Like to the point that he had to use the other side of a pen to get things to register. The notification bar was there, but he couldn't get it to pull down. It's running Android 1.6. To top it all off, the charger died within 5 minutes, so now he has to go buy a universal charger (he tested it with a volt meter and nothing is coming out). It was shipped from China and he can't return it either...lol

He doesn't care much though, since he is going to buy an iPad later this week, he just wanted a cheap android tablet to mess around with (try to root, put on 2.1, etc).

BTW, he is an iPhone user that I converted to Moto Droid :D

Your buddy sounds like me. Was his white or did his look like an iPad.
I have the white one.

The thing is horrid beyond belief. I checked sysinfo at it states it runs at 175mhz when they advertised it @600.

Your friend got ripped off. I paid $87 for mine (shipped). I bought thinking, if it is garbage, I could use it as a 7" picture frame. Well, it is beyond horrid, the screen dithers so bad. I think it has 16,000 colors It lags so much I am not kidding you.

I'll post picts in the tablet section someday.

As for Live Android x86/usb install. I wouldn't recommend it. Many apps don't work because they assume arm. Also, how do you plan to get apps on it? It is nice to play with but not very practical.

The thing about Android is that to run it in a laptop it has to be run in a virtual machine. from what I understand this is how it is run in phones as well, but the VM is the entire interface.

At this point in time though, Android is not really set up to run as the principal OS in a standard rig.

That I know of, the closes thing to that is the netbook made for the motorola xoom, and that runs a modified version of ubuntu Linux (don't know which version), with the android side being in a VM.

You are better off just taking your old rig and running a Linux distro of your preference on it. It will give that machine an entire new lease on life.
