Proximity Sensor Problem?

The apps I previously used to turn off and lock screen, by turning phone face down or covering the screen, do not work with my new S10+. Is this a common issue with this phone? Do anyone have apps performing this function? So far I have tried 6 or 7...

Have you tried WaveUp?

That is the app that I use, and I love it.

There are lots of adjustments in the settings to get it just right.

Also, if all you need is an app to turn the screen off (not on), then I use Greenify to do that.

Within the settings there is the option to make Greenify your assistant app, and by long pressing your circle navigation button it will turn off your screen.

An added benefit of Greenify is that you can use it to force stop apps that run continuously.

This can save battery life, and be set up to occur automatically or manually.

However, if you use Google Assistant you won't be able to do this, as Google Assistant is your assistant app.

But it works fine for me, as I don't need Google Assistant.

Thanks for great idea. I have contacted the Dev of Wave. Like all others it does not work. One dev said the issue is w the s10 sensors. Who knows. I'd like to find a s10/s10+ user who has 'cracked the code'. Thanks again.

Then if all you need is to turn the screen off (presumeably locking the device afterwards) then try Greenify.

After you set up the app, touch the three dot icon in the upper right and select Settings.

Go through these, most of which you already set up when first setting the app up.

One of these will allow you to make the app your default Assist app.

A long press on the circle navigation bar button will turn the screen off and lock the device.

Note:
This will disable Google Assistant as your assistant app.

Also, I am wondering if your sensor functions as Samsung intended?

Meaning does the screen turn off when you are on a call and hold the phone to your ear?

Or does the screen stay on anyway?

Thank you...yes the screen does go black when the phone is put to my ear. So the function work for calls.

So then it seems that the issue is with 3rd party apps controlling the sensor, correct?

Did you activate the device administrator for Wave Up?

The device administrator must be activated in order for the app to gain control over the sensor.

Yes the device admin was activated for each app I tried. One if the Devs responded and said the issue is with the s10 sensors. The ones I have tried DO work on older Galaxy, HTC 10, and Pixel.
