Rooting so I can use Eris for mobile Wifi

Hey guys, im new to all this so you may have to hang with me a little. I am running my Eris on the OTA 2.1 and i just want to root it so I can use it for mobile wifi. I am on the latest Mac OS so i don't know if that makes much of a difference when it comes to rooting. Essentially im looking for the simplest way to get this done, any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

And then possibly this if you want basically the OTA with just a couple tweaks
