Root 2.1 Messaging app on 2.2

I don't know if I'm the only one who doesn't like the new stock Froyo messaging app(I doubt I am) but is there any way to switch out the new one with the old one. Personally I loved the old stock messaging app and I would LOVE to have it back. I know there's the whole issue of it not being compatible but if anyone has gotten it to work I would love to know. I don't want to have to go back to Handcent =/

Well instead of the contact picture being at the very top its next to every text they send. Even YOUR picture pops up. It takes up more space than necessary and is quite annoying. Also, the theme is white, not black. This makes it a bit harder to see that someone has sent you a text message.

And its not working one bit. I really hope someone fixed it soon. I'd try but I'm horrible at these things. Oh well, you gotta learn sometime right?

Hmm...I kind of liked it, certainly didn't dislike it. I agree, though, the pics on every line does take up space, but texts are typically so short it didn't cause me too much grief.

Also, I liked being able to read people's Facebook/Twitter feeds while i texted them, and now that's gone!

I'm sure if someone posted up the .apk for the stock 2.1 messenger app, you could just push it to /system/app using ADB. I'm at work right now, otherwise I'd hook you up with it, as I'm still running 2.1. If I'm not mistaken, there should be a thread in here or another Droid forum that had a modified 2.1 Messenger app that let you tweak the settings a good deal. Take a look around.

Nope, that don't work. I've tried, there was another thread about this a few days back.

^ This... it was one of the first things I tried when I flashed 2.2... It will work but you will get a FC everytime you send a text, the text will send though...

We will just need to wait for a dev to theme the 2.2 mesaging app... for now I am back to using Handcent...
