It sucks. Im running 3g even though im in 4g area. I turn my wifi off even though i have wireless at my house. I have the cdma auto thing on. Yet im still only getting 5 hours max off charge with my phone. What gives? I do have GPS enabled on all the time but that should not matter. I love my phone no matter what, but this battery shit is pissing me off. My HTC touch can go 2 days with no charge and still be able to make a phone call. HTC EVO not even 5 hours before it dies. What gives guys? Please help me.

There are still a few other things that you can turn off/try.

Axe the flickr account
Turn syncing down or off on stuff
See what's using so much battery power in the about phone/battery option

One of my friends has this same problem; lucky if he gets 3 to 5 hours out of it and it's been almost a week for him. I'm going to check his phone out tomorrow.

Also, try the overclock widget.

I have the same issue with battery life. I turned it from gsm to cdma, uninstalled my battery widget (in case it was sucking up battery power), turned off auto login on Google talk and signed out, disabled stock and news updates, and don't have WiFi or 4G on - and I'm getting approximately 5hrs of battery life myself! I'm contemplating returning phone to Best Buy and getting a new phone in the hopes of a better battery. I do love this phone though.

Well i did exact same thing you did ^. But i also just did this battery charge thing off and on and so far i have Up Time (2:52:10) and Awake Time - (1:30:45) and my battery level is at 65% already. This is with light use. 1 missed call and a few website searches.

I really think there has been a bad battery batch that has gone out. How can one person have the same shit as the other guy but his battery lasts all damn day. Makes me angry lol. Only thing i havent done and don't want to do is a hard reset. To much stuff to setup after that. I honestly dont think that is the problem though. It has to be something with the battery.

Btw my Cell Standby is 32% battery use and this was after doing the cdma thing.

50% awake time? That means that for every 2 minutes the phone was turned on, you were using it for 1 of those minutes. And to have 65% battery after that is pretty good IMHO.

Either that's not light use, or you have some issue with an app not letting the phone properly sleep.

Comparatively, my up is 7h32m and awake time is 1h 59m and I'm sitting at 67%. That's my light usage.

I seem do be doing pretty well with battery. I don't turn on the GPS unless i'm navigating because the network location option finds me to within 30 meters anyways, and if i am using it to navigate it's plugged in to the car charger. On battery.... I had mine off the charger at about 3:30pm at a wedding, took multiple videos and photos, phone calls, surfed the web, checked the weather, etc., went to bed at 1:30 am with about 35% battery so i put it in airplane mode and turned off the network, woke up the next morning at 11am and turned back on all the network and internet with 24% battery, and put it on the charger at 12:30pm with 15% battery left.

No where close to comparable to the blackberry battery life I had been used to, but I figured it was gonna be dead when i woke up after a night of heavy usage. Absolutely dominated the iphone battery I had been playing with a few months ago.

That is pretty much my story as well. I have tried all the battery magic tricks that have been posted and seen no appreciable difference.

I have come to the conclusion that for HTC to deliver a phone at a competitive price point required some cutting of corners. $450 is pretty cheap for a cutting edge smart device.

The radios in our phone whether it be the Wi-FI or 3G are terrible. My EVO is the first phone I have owned ( I have been with sprint since '99 ) not to get a full signal at work. I can't get a full wi-fi signal sitting next to my router. The one bonus about the wi fi radio is that its thirst for power is non-existent compared to the 3g radio. This isn't me roasting the phone hell I love it but honestly it does have its faults.

Using wifi at home on heavy use my battery last as long as it does on 3g with low to medium use. Let me repeat the 3G radio is the primary culprit when it comes to battery consumption. At night I don't even have to turn anything off just the simple fact its on wi fi means that I may lose only 10% battery while im asleep. Once I leave the house though the slope is almost laughable. It literally takes a nose dive towards zero.

There are draw backs to being the first kid on the block with a new toy. I usually wait for the intial bugs to be fixed before I pick up a device but I just had to have the EVO. HTC will invairibaly fix the issue no doubt in later production roll outs but they got the the 3G wifi radios all wrong with ours.

Here's the way my Evo is set up, if you want to try.
Instead of using the stock HTC:Sense home screen i've downloaded PandaHome (it's free)from the market. For some reason, pandahome seems to consume a lot less battery.
Pandahome also let's me download other other custom themes from the market.

Only my facebook and gmail is auto sync'd. In addition, make sure your google talk is unsync'd.

These two steps I've gotten 12-14 hours a day with moderate use. Oh, did I also mention during these 12 hours my aim is continusously running?

Try it out.

Ok i think i know what my prblem was. I use facebook and gmail. So i went into accounts and syncs and unchecked all of them except weather. So far i was able to put my phone into sleep without my battery running down. My up time is 6 hours 22 min and my awake time is 1 hour 23 min with 77% battery left.

we share something in common, bad battery or phone.

i have exactly same thing, full charge won't last more than 4~5 hours with light use. First battery from the package didn't come close to 4~5 hours, and i had it switched with Sprint store demo phone and it's little better.

even with or without background sync with gmail and weather, i believe this phone is defective. full charge from yellow or red battery takes more than 5 hours....i am carrying the cable everywhere i go, and phone is either hot or warm...this IS defective phone...

consider my options as to change the phone when next wave of shipment comes in....

If I could jump in guys I would like to share my thoughts on this. I have had my phone since release date and I cannot get over 5-1/2hrs. I have done EVERYTHING even hard resetting and not setting up any sync info and regardless I cannot get more than 5-1/2hrs with the screen on. I drop approximately 10% every 30sec regardless of all the tricks...it's obvious that there is something wrong with some of our phones. I took mine to my local Sprint Store and they checked the battery and it checked out fine. Tomorrow I am exchanging it for another one if their shipment comes in.

I had similar problems. I found the major culprit being the fall/water/leaves "live background" for me. As well I set all of the automatic update services to 4 hours update time (or their longest).

After my changes... I disconnected the phone from charger last night at 9PM. 12 hours later at 9am the battery was at 90%. I consider that acceptable.

You might want to hard reset your phone and start from scratch if you've changed a bunch of stuff and are uncertain of all of the changes you made.
