Flash player for HTC Desire

I have been trying to watch some skateboard clips on sites that use flash player however I dont seem to be able to watch them. After a bit of digging it "seems" that I need android 2.2 in order to play clips. Is this right? If so how can I update as I am currently running 2.1. Finally if I do upgrade to 2.2 how do I make sure I dont loose all my apps, contacts, dates etc etc etc - sorry if this has already been asked. had a good look on here but couldn't find the answer.

2.2 is not yet released, check the sticky near top of page for full details and rumours. It includes Flash 10.1 (full flash), as all we get now is things compatible with the internal 'flash' player (e.g. youtube).
details on how to update will come nearer the time, including on backing up (although if you use astro you can back up apps, and there is an option in settings for general settings etc)

anybody know if i can get update on my rooted htc desire?
